Eintracht Frankfurt beat 10-man West Ham United 1-0 in their Europa League semi-final second leg to reach their first European final in 42 years with a 3-1 aggregate victory.

In front of a deafening 48,000 crowd, Rafael Borre drilled in the winner for the hosts in the 26th minute, beating the English club for a second time following a 2-1 triumph in the first leg last week.

West Ham, who played most of the game with 10 men after left back Aaron Cresswell was dismissed for a professional foul on Jens Petter Hauge in the 17th minute, were toothless throughout. Hammers manager David Moyes was also sent off in the 79th minute for angrily kicking a ball in a frustrating and scrappy end to West Ham’s European run this season.

The Germans, who last reached a European final in 1980, will face Rangers on May 18 after the Scottish side knocked out RB Leipzig.

Follow reaction from a crucial clash in Frankfurt below:

HT: Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 West Ham (3-1 on agg)

Half-time: That’s the end of a really demoralising 45 minutes for West Ham.

Cresswell was shown a red card inside the opening 20 minutes after hauling down Hauge. The referee initially booked him but then showed him a red after going over to the monitor.

Seven minutes later and Borre gave Frankfurt the lead on the night with a smart finish from a Knauff pull-back.

West Ham need two goals to send this game to extra time. It’s a desperate situation for the Premier League side.

45+3 mins: YELLOW! Declan Rice fouls Kamada and then gives the referee a few unkind words during the aftermath. He goes in the book for dissent.

45+2 mins: Rode tries his luck from the edge of the box but it’s always drifting wide of Fabianski’s right-hand post.

West Ham then force another corner as Johnson fires one off the leg of a Frankfurt defender. This set-piece comes to nothing, though.

45 mins: We will have a minimum of four minutes added time at the end of this first half. It’s been a very difficult 45 minutes for West Ham.

44 mins: SO CLOSE TO 1-1!

The free-kick is fizzed in low and a deflection takes it all the way through to Zouma but his close-range effort is cleared off the line!

The referee takes a quick look at his watch but it does not buzz. West Ham desperately close to levelling things up on the night.

43 mins: YELLOW! Ndicka goes into the book for taking Antonio down in the right channel. Good position for West Ham to load the box.

Moyes’ men are very good from set-pieces...

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 West Ham (3-1 on agg)

41 mins: Frankfurt in complete control as we approach half-time in Germany. West Ham are being restricted to defending inside their own half.

You do feel as though they need to get to the break 1-0 down and try to re-group. A second goal before half-time would well and truly kill the tie.

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 West Ham (3-1 on agg)

39 mins: Knauff is at the heart of all Frankfurt’s good attacking play. He drifts in from the right and receives the ball from Kamada but can’t get it under control again. He goes down looking for a penalty but there was nothing in it.

Since Cresswell’s sending off, Johnson has struggled to fill his boots at right-back and Knauff is exposing him.

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 West Ham (3-1 on agg)

37 mins: David Moyes is furious on the touchline. He has been ever since the sending off 20 minutes or so ago.

Frankfurt have the ball again and are continuing to make the West Ham players run. They eventually work it into Knauff but he let’s the ball run away from him as he darts into the box.

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 West Ham (3-1 on agg)

35 mins: West Ham have to chase the game now, but on the Frankfurt side they simply need to keep their heads and see this one out.

They have kept the ball well for the last few minutes, making the 10 men of West Ham chase their shadows.

West Ham pinch it back and Bowen goes down midway inside the Frankfurt half but the referee is not interested one bit.
