Eintracht Frankfurt beat 10-man West Ham United 1-0 in their Europa League semi-final second leg to reach their first European final in 42 years with a 3-1 aggregate victory.

In front of a deafening 48,000 crowd, Rafael Borre drilled in the winner for the hosts in the 26th minute, beating the English club for a second time following a 2-1 triumph in the first leg last week.

West Ham, who played most of the game with 10 men after left back Aaron Cresswell was dismissed for a professional foul on Jens Petter Hauge in the 17th minute, were toothless throughout. Hammers manager David Moyes was also sent off in the 79th minute for angrily kicking a ball in a frustrating and scrappy end to West Ham’s European run this season.

The Germans, who last reached a European final in 1980, will face Rangers on May 18 after the Scottish side knocked out RB Leipzig.

Follow reaction from a crucial clash in Frankfurt below:

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 West Ham (3-1 on agg)

58 mins: CHANCE! West Ham put a nice move together and almost find a way through!

They work it well through the midfield and eventually find Bowen on the right-hand side of the penalty area. He slides a cross along the six-yard box for Antonio but Tuta does superbly to hook it away from danger just in front of the West Ham striker.

Better from the visitors.

56 mins: Knauff does superbly to evade Fornals and dart into the penalty area once more. Johnson gets his body between the Frankfurt man and the ball. Knauff appeals for a penalty but there was very little in it.

Frankfurt have the ball back immediately though. It’s a bit of a training ground exercise for Frankfurt when they are in possession.

54 mins: West Ham enjoy their first lengthy period of possession in the second half as they bid to try and get a foothold back into this tie.

Antonio flicks a long ball on for Bowen but Toure is able to climb above the West Ham forward and clear away.

52 mins: West Ham look to create something from a throw-in as Coufal puts a long one into the Frankfurt box but Soucek was climbing all over Toure and concedes a foul.

The hosts then come forward once more. Kamada slides a delightful through ball in for Kostic but he can’t quite keep it in play on the byline.

50 mins: West Ham do already look quite tired out there. They are chasing shadows and struggling to get near the Frankfurt players.

Knauff feeds the ball into the feet of Borre and his turn sits up nicely on the volley but Fabianski gets down to make a comfortable save.

48 mins: Declan Rice leading the press at the start of this second half as he rushes the Frankfurt defence. Antonio then loses his footing as he attempts to join the West Ham captain in closing down the Germans.

West Ham are going to have to pick and choose when they press. They will leave themselves physically drained and tactically open if they push too high.

Second half on the way then. We have already seen one remarkable late comeback in Europe this week when Real Madrid struck two goals in the final few minutes to take Manchester City to extra time and then beat them.

Can West Ham produce a similarly startling fightback?
