Summer transfer window: Likely deals and biggest rumours

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The summer transfer window is just around the corner but clubs up and down the country are already getting their business done early.

Manchester United have money to spend - and have already agreed a deal for Victor Lindelof - but may be forced to shell out as much as £70m for both Alvaro Morata, while Andrea Belotti looks like he will stay at Torinio.

Chelsea's main man, Diego Costa, looks like he will be on his way after being told he is surplus to requirements by manager Antonio Conte.

Manchester City already have two players with Monaco's Bernardo Silva and Benfica goalkeeper Ederson in through the door, while Arsenal have snapped up Schalke's Sead Kolasinac on a free.

Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Mohamed Salah as they continue to negotiate with Roma over a fee but won't be adding Virgil van Dijk after being forced to apologise to Southampton for an illegal approach.

We will have all the latest throughout the day here so don't touch that dial.

Pickford 'does not seem a great fee'

England legend Peter Shilton has backed Everton's £30m move for Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Pickford will become the third most expensive goalkeeper of all time after Gianluigi Buffon and new Manchester City signing Ederson.

And Shilton thinks he's worth it.

He said: "For someone like Jordan, who is young and has great potential, it does not seem a great fee.

"In the big scheme of things it is not a lot of money, considering how important the goalkeeping position is.

"It is second to a striker who scores 20 goals a season. You cannot have a really good side without a good goalkeeper."

Salah will 'definitely' sign for Liverpool

That's the view of his fellow Egyptian Mido who thinks it is a matter of 'when' and not 'if' he joins the Reds.

However, Mido is concerned that the Premier League may be too high of a tempo for the former Chelsea man.

He said: “Salah will definitely move to Liverpool. It’s just a matter of time.

“Liverpool’s style of play suits Salah perfectly and Klopp’s style suits him.

“I’m not concerned about the competition Salah will face in Liverpool, but I just fear he might not be able to cope with the higher tempo of playing in the Premier League.”

'Liverpool, Tottenham, blah, blah' suffer transfer blow

Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic is confident of keeping teenager Ryan Sessegnon next season, the 17-year-old left-back being chased by the likes of Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Serbian manager said that his optimism stemmed from Sessegnon’s awareness that at Fulham he could assured of playing “32-33” games next season and that if the youngster went to “Liverpool, Tottenham, blah blah… they would go on loan”.

Cairney worth more than £20m

Slavisa Jokanovic has confirmed Fulham turned down a £20million bid from Newcastle for midfielder Tom Cairney.

“He [Rafa Benitez] asked for him and they offered £20m, but we didn’t let him go,” he said. “He’s not for Newcastle, there is no business there. He fits in at Fulham.”
