From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Arsenal have completed the club-record signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after getting the green light from Borussia Dortmund to announce the deal, with the striker joining for £56m, and have followed it up by agreeing a new three-and-a-half year contract extension for Mesut Özil that will see him paid £350,000-a-week.
The Gunners have put the 3-1 defeat by Swansea behind them on Wednesday by announcing a new club-record deal, with Olivier Giroud now expected to leave the club. Giroud looks certain to leave Arsenal for Chelsea after Blues agreed an £18m deal with the Gunners to keep him remain in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Dortmund are set to sign Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi on loan until the end of the season, with the Belgian striker in Dortmund undergoing a medical.
Manchester City will continue their late pursuit of Riyad Mahrez, although Leicester City are believed to have rejected a third offer on Tuesday worth £55m, and have informed the Premier League leaders that it will take a lot more to tempt them into selling as they do not have enough time to find a replacement.
Tottenham will also complete their first bit of business this month after agreeing a deal worth around £28m wit Paris saint-Germain to sign Lucas Moura, with a medical already completed this morning.

Why is Arsenal's move for Aubameyang taking so long to complete?
Arsene Wenger admitted last night following the dismal 3-1 defeat by Swansea that he expects the transfer to go right to the wire because "it's complicated".
He did not want to talk too much about the deal, but with Aubameyang at Arsenal's London Colney training base for a medical, SURELY the move will go through?
West Ham are willing to let Swansea re-sign Andre Ayew.
The Ghanaian international played for the Swans in 2015-16 but moved to the Hammers for £20m after a sparkling debut season in the Premier League.
His time at Upton Park - and now the London Stadium - has not quite gone to plan though and Carlos Carvalhal is also trying to add Liverpool wideman Lazar Markovic, though that deal seems more complex.
Crystal Palace club doctor Zaf Iqbal appears to be about as excited for today as we are....
Michy Batshuayi also holds the key to today's events, with the Chelsea striker set to join Borussia Dortmund on loan if Arsenal get Aubameyang and the Blues land Olivier Giroud.
But there remains the possibility of none of those happening, and if so, Antonio Conte is ready to keep Batshuayi in the Chelsea fold for the rest of the season.
It's worth remembering that as well as transfer deadline day, there's SEVEN Premier League matches tonight, making it one of the busiest days of the year for clubs up and down the country.
It's does seem slightly farcical, given that players who could change clubs before the 11pm deadline could still play before a move, and Sam Allardyce for one is not happy with the situation.
The Everton boss has spoken out against the fixtures, and believes that he has enough on his plate without having to worry about the Premier League.
Alexander Mitrovic looks as if he'll be moving back to Belgium today with Anderlecht.
Newcastle will replace him though, and Islam Slimani is a name they are looking at.
If it wasn't embarrassing enough for Arsenal following their defeat by Swansea, the club appear to have posted the WRONG video that confirms their deal for Aubameyang is done.
Is there anything they can do right?
The latest news from Manchester United surrounds the potential exit of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with interest in the striker coming from MLS side LA Galaxy.
Ibrahimovic has struggled for game time since coming back from a serious knee injury, and suffered a setback last month that has not helped his case.
Another player who is not featuring for United much is defender Daley Blind, and Roma are being linked with the Dutchman after allowing Emerson Palmieri to leave for Chelsea yesterday night.
