The January transfer window is nearing its climax with Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and more expected to be busy before the deadline.

Alexis Sanchez is finally a Manchester United player and made his debut as his new side swept aside Yeovil on Friday night. Jose Mourinho isn't stopping there though with a new central midfielder now on his shopping list. Arsenal are bedding Henrikh Mkhitaryan in but Arsene Wenger is keen to add at least one more new face before the window shuts with deals for Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and West Brom's Jonny Evans set to go down to the wire.

Manchester City are closing in on a new central defender with Athletic Bilbao's Aymeric Laporte set to arrive imminently while Chelsea's search for a new striker continues with talks over Roma's Edin Dzeko ongoing. Could Arsenal's Olivier Giroud arrive instead before the month is out?

We will have all the latest news throughout the day right here.

Antonio Conte has given his strongest indication yet that he has little influence over transfers at Chelsea.

Following the club’s 2-1 defeat against Arsenal in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, Conte again outlined his frustration at the lack of depth in his squad, and appeared to shrug off responsibility for the club’s recruitment policy.

“From the summer, the club decides every single player that comes here,” Conte said.

“Sometimes I can have an impact on this, sometimes you can’t have an impact. My first task is to do my job, to be a coach, to try to improve my players. For sure, I don’t have a big impact on the transfer market.”

He turned them down at the 11th hour once, so why have Manchester City returned for Athletic Bilbao's Aymeric Laporte now?

Here's Jack Pitt-Brooke to explain:

Jose Mourinho has dismissed reports suggesting that Manchester United are seeking a reunion with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Reports in Spain on Thursday morning suggested five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo may be allowed to leave if Madrid secure the signing of Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar this summer.

This latest round of speculation follows claims that the 32-year-old is unhappy at the Santiago Bernabeu following a lack of progress in talks over a new contract.

Madrid’s poor form of late has only escalated talk that Ronaldo could leave. Zinedine Zidane’s side currently sit fourth in La Liga, 19 points behind leaders and rivals Barcelona, and were eliminated from the Copa del Rey by Leganes on Wednesday night.

Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman looks to be on his way back to Germany.

Sky Sports report that the Ghana international is set to join Schalke on an 18-month loan after spending last year there too.

Head coach Dominico Tedesco certainly sounds confident.

"When we get the go-ahead from Chelsea, it won't take more than a minute to talk with Baba," he says.

Arsene Wenger is concerned that Henrikh Mkhitaryan may have suffered a hit to his confidence after a largely-disappointing stint at Manchester United.

The Armenia international joined the Gunners on Monday in exchange for Alexis Sanchez, ending a see-saw 18-month spell at Old Trafford.

Mkhitaryan was a target for Arsenal before he moved to United in the summer of 2016 but he did not settle into the side and was often left on the sidelines by Jose Mourinho.

Now he has a chance to reinvigorate his stalled career in north London and Wenger has backed the 29-year-old to do so following his challenging time with the Red Devils.

"Yes, of course you worry about how much it has affected him," he said. "But as well but it's a new chance for him, what you want in life is a new chance and I'm sure with his quality that he will take it. I met him at the time (he moved to United), at the time we were close but in the end it didn't work."

Mauricio Pochettino has failed to play down talk that he could be lured away from Tottenham should Real Madrid come calling.

The Tottenham boss is on the radar of the Spanish giants having impressed with his work in north London.

Real Madrid are big admirers of the Argentine and his stock only rose after his Spurs side finished above the Spanish club in their Champions League group stages this season.

Real boss Zinedine Zidane is once again under pressure to save his job after Wednesday’s shock Copa del Rey exit to Leganes. Real are also 19 points behind leaders Barcelona in La Liga.

Pochettino, who will be well in Real’s sights should Zidane be sacked, insists he is totally committed to the north Londoners but, tellingly, refused to kill off talk that he could be lured away in the future.

Here's what he had to say:

The key purchases at Manchester United are set to be in central midfield as Jose Mourinho seeks a long-term replacement for the retiring Michael Carrick and wants to boost his options.

Jean-Michel Seri of Nice has become the main target while Shakhtar Donetsk's Fred, a target of rivals City, is an option. United are also confident of doing a deal for 20-year-old Carlos Soler from Valencia, and Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl. The signing of Sanchez likely means they won’t pursue interest in Christian Pulisic as strongly.

The potential departure of Marouane Fellaini could well further influence things, but Mourinho may well go for another striker if the Belgian does leave. Fellaini is out of contract at the end of the season

What will Joao Mario to bring to West Ham? Here's David Moyes.

"My biggest concern is not him as a footballer but getting used to the Premier League, the speed and competitiveness compared to Italy or Portugal," he says.

"His ability as a footballer is not in question, he's proved it, and I just hope he can hit the ground running. That's my only concern."

Richarlison is angling for a summer move away from Watford, with his representatives holding talks with both Chelsea and Arsenal, the Watford Observer reports.

The Vicarage Road side have said he will not be leaving in January which leaves the window open to a move at the end of the season, the paper said.

There are even further suggestions that the Hornets have slapped him with a £50m price tag to ward off potential suitors this month.

Woof.

Southampton's new striker Guido Carrillo says he has the qualities required to rejuvenate the club's misfiring attack as they bid to climb out of the Premier League's relegation zone in the second half of the season.

Southampton, who are 18th in the table on 22 points, a point from safety, signed the Argentine from Monaco on Thursday for a reported club record fee.

The south coast club have struggled up front with 24 goals in as many league games and Charlie Austin, their top scorer with six goals, is out injured while fellow forwards Manolo Gabbiadini and Shane Long have contributed four goals between them.

"I'm an attacking player that can lead the line and bring others into play," he said. "I like to be active in and around the box to put away chances."
