The transfer deadline is fast approaching - clubs have to wrap up all their deals by 11pm BST on Friday 1 September, meaning today and tomorrow will be chaotic and potentially exciting with a host of switches still pending.

Among the biggest clubs, Man City could be set to sell Cole Palmer to Chelsea, while the latter could offload Callum Hudson-Odoi after his return from loan. Manchester United, meanwhile, are still looking for at least two more additions, with rivals Liverpool hoping to land another midfielder in Ryan Gravenberch, currently at Bayern Munich.

Brighton look set to sign Ansu Fati on loan from Barcelona, while several other Premier League teams could also conclude deals late on before the window shuts. Follow all the latest news and transfer rumour updates below; get all the latest football betting sites offers here.

Raheem Sterling misses out as Eddie Nketiah handed debut England squad call-up

Raheem Sterling has been omitted from the England squad while Eddie Nketiah was handed a first senior call-up by Gareth Southgate for the games against Ukraine and Scotland.

Sterling, who missed the summer internationals, was a candidate for a recall after starting the season in fine form for Chelsea but Southgate preferred Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace.

Arsenal striker Nketiah was selected ahead of Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins as the third specialist striker.

Southgate also kept faith with Harry Maguire and Kalvin Phillips, who have played no first-team football for Manchester United and Manchester City respectively, while also picking Jordan Henderson, who has moved to Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia.

Chelsea loan Romelu Lukaku to Roma on season-long deal

Romelu Lukaku has joined Roma on a season-long loan from Chelsea, ending the long-running stand-off between player and club.

The PA news agency understands the Serie A club will pay an £8million fee with no obligation to buy while also taking on the Belgium striker’s wages, which will be reduced from the £325,000-a-week he earned at Stamford Bridge.

Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino hinted last week that there could still be a place for the 30-year-old in his plans if a deal could not be agreed before Friday’s transfer deadline.

The striker has not played for the Blues since May 2022.

Spurs to make late move for Conor Gallagher?

The Englishman has started all four of Chelsea’s fixtures this season but The Telegraph are now suggesting that Spurs are considering a move for the midfielder who may see his minutes affected by Palmer’s imminent arrival.

Chelsea rejected a big of around £40m from West Ham for the 23-year-old earlier in the window and are expected to demand a fee of around £50m if they are to let go of the central midfielder this late in the window.

Will Callum Hudson-Odoi go to Forest?

The winger endured a difficult spell in Germany last season with Bayer Leverkusen and looks on course to leave Stamford Bridge before the conclusion of the transfer window. A deal with Fulham had been mooted for a while, but Marco Silva’s side have pulled out of a deal after failing to agree a fee.

Now, according to The Guardian, the 22-year-old could be close to agreeing a deal with Nottingham Forest, a move which would see the player reunite with Steve Cooper whom he played under as part of the England youth team setup.

Is Trevoh Chalobah leaving Chelsea?

Wesley Fofana’s second long-term knee injury had meant that Trevor Chalobah was likely to stay at Stamford Bridge to provide cover at centre-back. However, with the signing and Axel Disasi and the impressive early-season form of Levi Colwill, a departure for the 24-year-old may be sanctioned with Bayern Munich interested in the player as a replacement for Benjamin Pavard.

According to The Evening Standard, a fee of around £50m may prove a sticking point in a deal being completed before the deadline, but negotiations remain ongoing.

What’s going on with Cole Palmer?

In a surprise late move, Chelsea look set to complete a deal for Manchester City’s academy graduate Cole Palmer in a deal worth around £40m. The Blues saw an initial bid of £35m rejected but have now agreed terms on a deal for the 21-year-old.

Palmer started just three games last season but scored the equaliser in City’s Super Cup victory over Sevilla a few weeks ago and was expected to feature more heavily this season after the departure of Riyad Mahrez to the Saudi Pro League.

Man Utd look for new arrivals on deadline day and Liverpool aim to keep Salah

Injury-ravaged Manchester United’s search for a midfielder and left-back is likely to dominate transfer deadline day as Liverpool aim to keep hold of star man Mohamed Salah.

Erik ten Hag’s side have been hit by injuries throughout the first period of the season, seeing the likes of Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount and even new signing Rasmus Hojlund all face time off the pitch, with experienced defender Raphael Varane also now missing for the next few weeks.

United have been linked with Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat throughout the window, which shuts in England at 11pm on Friday, while left-back Marc Cucurella has been tipped to replace the injured Shaw on loan from Chelsea.

Callum Hudson-Odoi looks set to depart Chelsea for good this time, having had a loan at Bayer Leverkusen last term.

Nottingham Forest are close to a permanent deal for him, report the Guardian, though there’s no mention of the fee.

Bayern Munich are set to offer £50m to Fulham for combative central midfielder Joao Palhinha, reports the Telegraph.

The Bavarian giants had been in talks with Chelsea over a deal for Trevoh Chalobah, but there are “doubts” over that move getting done so their attention has moved to Portuguese star Palhinha.

While Chalobah plays mostly at centre-back for Chelsea, he can also feature in midfield and right-back.

However, Palhinha is rated at more than £60m by Fulham, who turned down an approach by West Ham for him earlier this summer.

First up we’ll go with a rumours wrap from the overnight publications:

A massive bid of in excess of £110m for Mohamed Salah is reported to be incoming, though Liverpool have habitually stated the forward is absolutely not for sale. Saudi Arabia’s finest are yet to be fully dissuaded, it seems.

Rumours: Salah bid well over £100m; Chelsea winger set for exit

Jurgen Klopp would reportedly be “furious” if Salah was allowed to leave Liverpool.
