Transfer deadline day is over as the window slammed shut for Premier League clubs at 11pm BST, following some frantic last-minute buying and selling.

Liverpool have given their midfield a further boost with the signing of Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich, although they rejected a bid, rumoured to be £150m, from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad for Mohamed Salah. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur finally got their man by securing Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson as Harry Kane’s replacement.

Elsewhere, Man City have sold Cole Palmer to Chelsea, and the London club offloaded Callum Hudson-Odoi to Nottingham Forest after his return from loan. Manchester United, meanwhile, had a very busy day as Sofyan Amrabat came in on loan from Fiorentina, Spurs left-back Sergio Reguilon has signed, Jonny Evans penned a one-year contract and Mason Greenwood left on loan for Spanish side Getafe.

Brighton had something of a coup by nabbing Ansu Fati on loan from Barcelona and Nottingham Forest had their customary slew of incomings.

Callum Hudson-Odoi move to Nottingham Forest all but done

Callum Hudson-Odoi to Nottingham Forest has been agreed, sources tell the Independent, but a late hurdle is holding up the move.

Final details over his contract with Chelsea must be agreed, with the English winger targeted to boost Forest’s attacking options.

Chelsea will need to settle Hudson-Odoi’s contract, with the player poised to take a pay cut at Forest, failure to do so could result in the player remaining at Stamford Bridge.

On loan to Leverkusen last season Hudson-Odoi played just 14 times in total, making one assist.

Jurgen Klopp likes look of retooled midfield

Gravenberch’s new boss has also been speaking this morning after a midfield refurbishment at Anfield.

“We pretty much had to reinvent the team. The midfield is all ready and will be completely new,” says Jurgen Klopp, with a fourth summer midfield signing set to be completed today. “We had to do that in a season where we didn’t qualify for the Champions League, which has a massive impact.

“I know people expect it to be different but it is how it is. I really think we did good business, the players we brought in are really good, will help the team. We are less experienced but that is normal, but we are full of desire and I love this team.

“The natural skill-set is obvious but we had to replace the most successful midfield in the young (recent) history of this club.

“Fabinho, Henderson, Milner, Gini Wijnaldum a few years ago. All had big parts in the team. Naby (Keita), (Alex) Oxlade-Chamberlain, they all played big parts in that midfield.

“I think we have much more goal threat in midfield now but the work-rate these guys put in, the stability they gave us was second-to-none and that is what we have to create as well.

“But I think it is clear the players we brought in have real quality, are young and in a super way really excited about the opportunity of being here, so that’s a cool mix.”

Thomas Tuchel reveals why Ryan Gravenberch is joining Liverpool

Ryan Gravenberch’s move to Liverpool is, barring a late snag during the medical, all but done, with the Dutchman believed to be on Merseyside ahead of completing the move.

“The main problem for him is that we don’t really play with a #8 in our 4-2-3-1 system,” Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has explained of the midfielder’s desire to depart the club. “And we’re spoilt for choice up front, with really experienced players.

“Ryan is a very nice, hard-working, committed player. He wasn’t happy with his situation. He sees the chance in Liverpool to fight for a place at #8 in a 4-3-3. He’s wanted to go for a while. An offer came in and we discussed it. It’s not done yet, but the outcome is clear.”

Transfer deadline day LIVE: Veteran defender joins Union Berlin

Off to the continent, briefly, and an intriguing addition to Union Berlin’s squad. The German club, set for a first Champions League campaign this season, have confirmed the signing of Leonardo Bonucci, who should provide all sorts of winning nous at the back. Bonucci was frozen out by Juventus this summer having announced an intention to retire at the end of his contract, which expired next year - but this looks a smart bit of business from the Berlin club.
