Transfer deadline day is over as the window slammed shut for Premier League clubs at 11pm BST, following some frantic last-minute buying and selling.

Liverpool have given their midfield a further boost with the signing of Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich, although they rejected a bid, rumoured to be £150m, from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad for Mohamed Salah. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur finally got their man by securing Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson as Harry Kane’s replacement.

Elsewhere, Man City have sold Cole Palmer to Chelsea, and the London club offloaded Callum Hudson-Odoi to Nottingham Forest after his return from loan. Manchester United, meanwhile, had a very busy day as Sofyan Amrabat came in on loan from Fiorentina, Spurs left-back Sergio Reguilon has signed, Jonny Evans penned a one-year contract and Mason Greenwood left on loan for Spanish side Getafe.

Brighton had something of a coup by nabbing Ansu Fati on loan from Barcelona and Nottingham Forest had their customary slew of incomings.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg future remains in the balance

Tottenham continue to try and trim their squad slightly, with Ange Postecoglou in real danger of having to leave out a couple of senior players from his 25-man Premier League squad. One of those who Spurs would, ideally, like to move on is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, but finding a destination for the Dane is proving a little tricky with the midfilder said to not be keen on a move across London to Fulham. Fabrizio Romano now reports that Atletico Madrid may be back in the mix for the 28-year-old, but the two clubs are a little way apart on the structure of a possible loan to buy deal.

“No one’s not been integrated, no one hasn’t been training with the team,” Postecoglou said of the situation with a slightly bloated squad a little bit earlier today. “I’m not isolating anyone at the moment.

“Players have got their own reasons for making these decisions but ultimately, come the deadline, we’re going to have to name a 25-man list and we’ve got more than that at the moment, so some people are going to miss out.

“It’s up to them to decide the next step. From my perspective, we haven’t excluded anyone from training.”

Neal Maupay could return to Brentford

Brentford appear to have missed out on Johan Bakayoko but Thomas Frank remains in the market for a new forward. That player could be Neal Maupay, obviously familiar with the London club having powered them into the Premier League with a fine scoring season in 2018-19, and reported to be set to join on loan from Everton.

Southampton block Che Adams loan

Che Adams remains a Southampton player despite being regularly linked with a move away from the Championship club this summer, and it appears the Scotland international may be staying at St Mary’s - The Athletic report that the striker’s potential loan with an option to buy move to Wolves has been blocked by Southampton.

Tottenham agree deal for Brennan Johnson

Tottenham Hotspur are set to secure their Harry Kane replacement after agreeing a deal with Nottingham Forest to bring Brennan Johnson to north London.

Spurs and Forest were about £10m apart in terms of proposed fee yesterday but after further negotiations today, Miguel Delaney, Chief Football Writer for The Independent, reports that a deal worth an initial £45m, that could rise to £50m, has been agreed.

Johnson is now on his way to Spurs’ training ground to complete his move ahead of the 11pm BST transfer deadline this evening.

Stand-in Manchester City boss on Cole Palmer’s exit

With Pep Guardiola still laid up after undergoing back surgery, Juanma Lillo handled Manchester City’s press duties today, explaining Cole Palmer’s departure after the 21-year-old sealed his switch to Chelsea earlier.

“This is the reality - it’s very difficult to go against a player’s wishes,” Lillo said. “When a player wants to go, it is very difficult to go against that. We have to work out the operation that has value for the club as well.

“On the other side, there is a pride that young player upon player is being created now and starting to give life to the rest of the country, like at Chelsea.

“We have to be proud and satisfied at Manchester City that we have done this, but to deny a footballer the opportunity to do what he wants to do is very difficult.”

Mikel Arteta reveals Arsenal’s deadline day plans

As expected, there will be no further incomings at Arsenal today, but the club continue to try to offload a few unwanted members of their squad.

“I don’t expect anyone else to come in,” Mikel Arteta has confirmed. “There is no one else coming in.”

“For me, [today] is serene. I don’t have to do much work. Edu and the board are trying to finalise a few [player exits].

“We were working together to find the best solutions. We found them. I think the players are happy and the club did some good business.”

Roy Hodgson confirms Crystal Palace interest in Rob Holding

Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Crystal Palace are working on a deal to try and sign Rob Holding from Arsenal.

“He is a player who has interested us for a while,” Hodgson says of the centre half. “Dougie Freedman (Palace sporting director) knows him very well.

“We’re working on the basis that you can’t have too many quality players in your squad. If he was available and it’s a deal that is doable I’d be very happy to work with him.

“Our squad is not that massive. There is space in the 25-man squad for another player. If it could be Rob we’d be happy with that.”
