From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Hornets were on the wrong end of a hammering by Manchester City in their last Premier League game and will be looking to resume their bright start to the season under the former Hull City manager.
Arsenal on the other hand will be looking to continue their mini-revival after a poor start to the season.

What time does it start?
The game kicks off at 5.30pm BST on Saturday 14 October at Vicarage Road.
Where can I watch it?
The game will be shown live on BT Sport 1 from 5pm BST or alternatively you can follow along with The Independent’s live blog here.
It’s a big game for…
Mesut Ozil. There has been a lot of talk about the German in the build-up to this game after Arsene Wenger said Ozil actually wants to stay at the Emirates. He also claimed, despite Arsenal’s recent results, that the Gunners are a better team with Ozil in it so it will be up to him to prove it on Saturday.
Player to watch…
Alexis Sanchez. The forward suffered the brutal disappointment of missing out on the World Cup after Chile’s 3-0 defeat to Brazil over the international break and you can be sure he will be chomping at the bit to take out his pain on someone… watch out Watford.
Form…
Watford: LDLWLWD
Arsenal: WDWWWW
Odds…
Watford: 23/5
Arsenal: 4/6
Draw: 10/3
10' - After a short break in play due a wrist injury picked up by Watford's Richarlison, we are back underway.
12' - Granit Xhaka shapes a lovely ball in towards Sead Kolasinac at the far post and his first-time cross back in is blocked by Adrian Mariappa. It's been all Arsenal so far.
Arsenal have been the dominant team in the opening stages of the match but are yet to really test Heurelho Gomes in the Watford goal. Alexandre Lacazette has looked lively and i wouldn't be surprising to see him open the scoring.
19' - Abdoulaye Doucoure squares up Hector Bellerin down Watford's left before beating him down the outside and drilling a cross into the penalty area. Roberto Pereyra gets on the end of it but can't guide the ball on target.
That was perhaps Watford's best opening of the match so far and it was a half-chance at best.
24' - Another chance for Watford from wide as Kiko Femenia whips in a low cross from the right wing in towards Richarlison but the Brazilian can't turn the ball in the direction of Petr Cech's goal. Watford in the ascendancy here.

28' - Richarlison breaks from inside the Watford half and squares Laurent Koscielny up on the left wing. The Brazilian cuts inside and beats the Arsenal defender for pace but Hector Bellerin tracks back to get the crucial challenge in. Good defending from the Spanish right-back.
29' - Mohamed Elneny lets fly from 30 yards and has Heurelho Gomes worried. However, the ball flies narrowly over the crossbar, much to the Watford goalkeeper's relief.
35' - Arsenal break with Alexandre Lacazette and the Frenchman evades the slide tackle of Adrian Mariappa before attempting to dink a deft ball in towards Danny Welbeck. However, Jose Holebas gets back just in time to deny the former Manchester United man.
GOAL! Watford 0-1 Arsenal (Mertesacker)
39' - Per Mertesacker heads Arsenal into the lead from Granit Xhaka's corner!
43' - Granit Xhaka almost doubles Arsenal's lead from Danny Welbeck's cut-back but Heurelho Gomes gets down well to save it. Welbeck finds the ball back at his feet and this time he finds Hector Bellerin but the Spaniard misses the target with his effort.
