Tottenham Hotspur suffered their first defeat at their new stadium after Michail Antonio gave West Ham United a 1-0 win in the Premier League on Saturday.

Tottenham made a number of changes to their side as they prepared for their Champions League semi-final first leg against Ajax on Tuesday but Mauricio Pochettino's gamble backfired against a resolute West Ham side.

Spurs dominated the first half and could have been ahead after 11 minutes when Son Heung-min was played through by Dele Alli but his shot from the left was too close to the near post of Lukasz Fabianski who got down to save.

The Pole also did well to deny Christian Eriksen who shot from close range after good work down the right from Lucas Moura.

Tottenham were made to pay for those missed chances as West Ham took the lead after halftime. A lofted cross from Marko Arnautovic in the 67th minute found Antonio who lashed it in past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

19 minutes

A decent opening for West Ham.

Felipe Anderson careers down the left with pace and skill, capitalising on Juan Foyth's incorrect positioning and a misunderstanding between Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier to move into the box.

He releases a shot with the ball beneath his feet, ten yards out and in good shooting position but failing to produce the requisite power to beat Hugo Lloris, Dier's recovering slide tackle cutting down the angle for the shot.

Clever play from Juan Foyth, initially winning a duel with Felipe Anderson and then recognising the opportunity to move forward, a touch off from Lucas Moura allowing Foyth to feed the ball on to Heung-Min Son on the edge of the box.

Son looks for an overlapping Danny Rose but Ryan Fredericks matches him stride-for-stride, playing the ball against Rose to win a goal kick.

It has been an even tussle thus far at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs just starting to ramp up their attacking movements.

Issa Diop blocks Heung-Min Son's 20-yard drive. Corner kick.

Christian Eriksen delivers to just beyond the penalty spot, but Fabian Balbuena rises well to meet it, pushing out quickly to snuff out Heung-Min Son's attempts to retrieve the attacking situation.

Nearly!

Davinson Sanchez steps up from defence and finds a pass between the lines all-too-inviting, a great parting through the middle for West Ham opening space for Lucas Moura.

Moura's touch is excellent, turning in one movement and freeing the ball from his feet for a shot, firing low and just wide of Lukasz Fabianski's right-hand upright with the Polish goalkeeper frantically trying to get across.

A first caution of the afternoon.

It goes Robert Snodgrass' way, Anthony Taylor quickly to his pocket as the West Ham midfielder is late in a sliding tackle after being caught out of position.

Spurs are finding joy down the channels, Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura interchanging roles well so far, one dropping deep to drag the defence up, the other making incisive runs in behind and generally being found by Tottenham's creators-in-chief, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.

West Ham are recovering well, though, Issa Diop particularly getting back quickly on a few occasions, though you feel they'll remain vulnerable as they persist with a relatively high line.

West Ham may have hoped to utilise their forward-thinking full-backs more in the first half hour but Ryan Fredericks has been forced to be particularly withheld, Danny Rose's natural tendency to hug the touchline perhaps influencing his positioning on the very left of Tottenham's midfield diamond.

Christian Eriksen is skewing increasingly right, too, which is keeping Arthur Masuaku's forward charges to a minimum.

West Ham have also failed to get their front three into the game, a hopeful long ball towards Michail Antonio cut out by Davinson Sanchez rather simply in the end, Antonio visibly frustrated as he jogs back into position.

He's barely touched the ball.
