From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

36' - Ben Chilwell's suicidal pass across the face of the Leicester defence is intercepted by Jacob Murphy on the edge of the area. The Newcastle man takes a touch before attempting to curl the ball into the far corner from 20 yards, only to see Kasper Schmeichel spring to his left and tip the ball around the post.
45' - We've hit a bit of a lull at the end of this opening period. Leicester were the dominant side for 15 minutes after grabbing the equaliser but the last 10 minutes have passed with very little happening.
We'll have one minute of added time before the interval.
Half-time - Newcastle 1-1 Leicester
The referee brings an end to the first half and we're level at the break after goals from Joselu and Riyad Mahrez.
46' - We are back underway at St James' Park, where both sides are unchanged.
50' - Like in the first half, Leicester have started this second period slowly. Demarai Gray just ballooned a simple pass out of play under no pressure whatsoever. Truly awful.
52' - Joselu gets in front of Ben Chilwell to meet Matt Ritchie's corner at the near post but the Spaniard's header isn't deft enough and the ball goes behind for a goal-kick.
58' - After a hugely exciting start to this match we've seen a real drop in quality over the last half-an-hour or so. Leicester have been the more adventurous of the two sides, with Newcastle seemingly content to sit deep and wait for the chance to counter-attack.
GOAL! Newcastle 1-2 Leicester (Gray)
60' - Just as I bemoan the lack of quality in this match, Leicester net an absolute beauty. Vicente Iborra's long ball is knocked down by Marc Albrighton to Demarai Gray, whose first-time shot deflects into the top corner off Florian Lejeune.
