From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

GOAL! Newcastle 1-0 Leicester (Joselu)

4' - Jacob Murphy picks Dwight Gayle out down the left wing and his good cutback is turned home by Joselu.

What a start for the hosts!

7' - Close! Mikel Merino wins the ball back in a dangerous position inside Leicester's half and quickly finds Dwight Gayle in between the Foxes' two central defenders. Gayle takes a touch before shooting just wide of Kasper Schmeichel's far post from the edge of the area.

Newcastle have started really brightly here.

13' - Demarai Gray attempts to drag Leicester level but his shot from distance flies harmlessly over Karl Darlow's crossbar.

GOAL! Newcastle 1-1 Leicester (Mahrez)

20' - Great goal. Just moments after Demarai Gray comes close to equalising from distance for Leicester, Riyad Mahrez tries a long-range shot of his own and Karl Darlow, despite getting two hands on the ball, can't keep it out.

Liam Corless9 December 2017 17:52

24' - You wonder if Leicester have identified long shots as a weakness for Karl Darlow.

This time Marc Albrighton cuts in from the left and shoots from distance, only to see Darlow get down well and parry the ball away.

26' - Demarai Gray cuts in from the left wing and finds Danny Simpson at the far post with a delicious cross, only for Simpson to put the ball wide of the near post under a bit of pressure from a Newcastle defender.

Leicester are the dominant side here.

28' - Jamie Vardy wants a penalty after a challenge by DeAndre Yedlin leaves him on the turf but the referee rightly waves play on. Replays show the Newcastle full-back got the ball.
