Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Maurizio Sarri makes his competitive debut as Chelsea manager as they take on Huddersfield Town on the opening weekend of the Premier League, with four games kicking-off at 3pm.

Chelsea will attempt to keep pace with Manchester United after they beat Leicester City on Friday night, but all eyes will be on their news manager Sarri as well as summer signing Jorginho who followed the manager from Napoli.

Two of the promoted clubs are also in action as Fulham take on Crystal Palace and Cardiff City travel to Bournemouth, while Watford host Brighton and Hove Albion. In the day’s late game, Wolves host a new-look Everton side at Molineux as the return to the top flight.

After Watford convincingly won 2-0 against Brighton, all eyes turn to Richarlison as he makes his debut for Everton tonight. A big night for the youngster who after a great first season at Watford, somewhat struggled last season and gets his fresh start under Marco Silva

KICK OFF: We are underway in the last game of the day!

2 mins: Wolves survive an Everton corner, and the biggest thing to point out so far is the yellowness of this 'gold' kit

5 mins: Wolves with some good early possession and earn themselves a corner, but Keane clears away

10 mins: Not the most free flowing open game at Molineux, Coleman with a tame strike at Patricio, and a couple of half chances from corners, and that's about it in the opening 10 minutes.

14 mins: Everton's Richarlison gets a yellow card for a late challenge and that's not the impact he will have been wanting to make early on

17 mins: GOAL! Wolves 0-1 Everton (Richarlison)

Richarlison is felled for a free kick from the left, Wolves can't deal with it, and Richarlison gets the knock down and fires it home. He touches the badge as he wheels away in celebration. That's a better start for the new signing!
