Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Chelsea will attempt to keep pace with Manchester United after they beat Leicester City on Friday night, but all eyes will be on their news manager Sarri as well as summer signing Jorginho who followed the manager from Napoli.
Two of the promoted clubs are also in action as Fulham take on Crystal Palace and Cardiff City travel to Bournemouth, while Watford host Brighton and Hove Albion. In the day’s late game, Wolves host a new-look Everton side at Molineux as the return to the top flight.

35 mins: GOAL! Watford 1-0 Brighton (Roberto Pereyra)
It's a screamer from Pereyra who gets his goal tally for the season underway in style. Not much Brighton could do about that one as Pereyra volleyed home from a corner
Cardiff City have their best chance of the game as Mendez-Laing inches away from connecting to a cross. They remain 1-0 down, lucky to not be further behind following that missed penalty a couple of moments ago
41 mins: GOAL! Fulham 0-1 Crystal Palace (Jeffrey Schlupp)
Van Aanholt with a beautiful ball into Schlupp who lets it run across him before powering a shot home. Huge goal for Palace in an exciting game at Craven Cottage
45 mins: GOAL! Huddersfield Town 0-2 Chelsea (Jorginho pen)
Chelsea double their advantage on the stroke of half time! New signing Jorginho the penalty taker after Marcos Alonso was fouled in the box, and it looks a long way back now for Huddersfield. Jorginho with a bizarre run up, one we'd love a replay of, but ultimately it doesn't matter as the ball ripples the net.
HALF TIME: Huddersfield 0-2 Chelsea
Referee being booed off at the Kirklees Stadium after that penalty decision on the stroke of half-time, but Maurizio Sarri will be delighted
Half time in the Premier League games now, with Fulham and Watford receiving standing ovations from their fans as they lead Palace and Brighton respectively. Bournemouth also go into the break with a goal advantage over Cardiff, which really should've been two but Callum WIlson saw his penalty saved.
HALF TIME SCORES:
Bournemouth 1-0 Cardiff City (Ryan Fraser)
Fulham 0-1 Crystal Palace (Jeffrey Schlupp)
Huddersfield Town 0-2 Chelsea (N'golo Kante, Jorginho pen)
Watford 1-0 Brighton (Roberto Pereyra)
