Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Rafa Benitez will most likely put his entire team behind the ball and look to stop Manchester City for as long as possible in hope of a fortuitous goal or clean sheet for Newcastle.

He did this last season and last week against Chelsea, where he was criticised for his negative style of play after Wolves drew with City after a bold attacking performance.

“Last season he did it against us away and at home,” said Pep Guardiola on Benitez’s tactics. “Everything he is going to do is because he believes it’s the best for them to get points.”

We'll have all the latest from the Etihad:

For all you fantasy footballers, it was Marcos Alonso once again providing the assist for Eden Hazard's equaliser.

Great strike from the Belgian and they will be very happy with their performance.

HOW MANY CHANCES DOES BENTEKE NEED?

He just cannot score a goal. Southampton still just about repelling the Crystal Palace attacks.

Will they hold on?

GOAL! Crystal Palace 0-2 Southampton (Hojberg, 90+2)

All the Palace attacking and here you go... Southampton break and score!

West Ham 0-1 WOLVES

Wow. Wow.

Adama Traore scores and the final whistle goes. Wolves take the three points in the very last second.

The pace winger's first ever Premier League goal has given the Wolves a fantastic 3 points.

Crazy last minute action and goals goals goals now!

Brighton 2-2 Fulham

Chelsea 2-0 Bournemouth

Crystal Palace 0-2 Southampton

Everton 1-1 Huddersfield

West Ham 0-1 Wolves

Late goals aplenty in the Premier League, sure to be ruining lots of coupon slips but causing lots of excitement for those keeping score.

Chelsea join Liverpool at the top of the table with 12 points from a possible 12 following their victory over Bournemouth with goals from Pedro and Eden Hazard.

Everton will feel like they've missed a big chance to grab 3 points having been held at home by Huddersfield.

Meanwhile, the struggles go on for West Ham who suffer late ignominy by conceding in stoppage time against Wolves.

There's one more kick off still to come this afternoon as Manchester City host Newcastle.

The Toon Army were knocked out of the League Cup at Nottingham Forest in midweek and it doesn't get any easier this weekend with the formidable Manchester City the opposition.

City will be doing all they can to put their little blip last weekend against Wolves behind them.

These are your lineups this afternoon:

That means three changes for both sides which sees Stones, Mahrez and Jesus replace Company, Gundogan and Bernardo Silva for City.

For Newcastle, that sees Lascelles, Kenedy and Perez in for Schar, Ritchie and Murphy.

The Citizens have won all seven of their games in September under the stewardship of Pep Guardiola.

Eight today?
