From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Saturday's kick-off times:
Chelsea 15:00 Swansea
Crystal Palace 15:00 Middlesbrough
Everton 15:00 Sunderland
Hull 15:00 Burnley
West Brom 15:00 Bournemouth
Watford 17:30 West Ham
50 mins: West Brom 2 Bournemouth 1: The ball is in the back of the net at the Hawthorn, but the more pressing concern is for Craig Dawson and Tyrone Mings, who have clashed heads. Nacer Chadli was the player who eventually scored - only to be correctly ruled offside - and so the game will restart with a Bournemouth free-kick inside their own areas when the two injured players finish receiving treatment.
After a lengthy stop, Mings is up and able to continue but Dawson needs to be replaced. James McClean will come on take over from the defender.
No goals in the second half so far in the Premier League, but plenty in the Bundesliga - and most of them for Bayern Munich.
The German champions have clocked up an 8-0 home success over Hamburg at the Allianz Arena - which is a familiar feeling for the visiting supporters as far as the past seven seasons have gone.
68 mins: Chelsea 1 Swansea 1: A huge penalty shout for Swansea! When Gylfi Sigurdsson was sent down the left, he outmuscled Victor Moses, and as he tried to flick the ball over Cesar Azpilicueta inside the area, a stray arm from the Spaniard swiped it clear. The away fans, yards from the action, scream for a spotkick, but Neil Swarbrick waves all appeals away.
72 mins: PENALTY! GOAL! HULL 1 BURNLEY 0:
Tom Huddlestone breaks the deadlock from the penalty spot! The former Tottenham midfielder stepped up to net his first Premier League goal since March 2014 after Michael Keane was adjudged to have handballed by referee Martin Atkinson following a Hull corner from the right.
72 mins: GOAL! CHELSEA 2 SWANSEA 1:
Lukasz Fabianski has kept Swansea in the game for long periods this afternoon, but now it looks as though he may have cost his team a point. Pedro took Cesc Fabregas' pass in his stride, eased away from Tom Carroll and curled goalwards from 25 yards. The shot had accuracy but lacked any real power, and should have been routine for the visiting goalkeeper. Fabianski, however, got his angles wrong and allowed the ball to slip through his body and in.
76 mins: GOAL! HULL 1 BURNLEY 1:
Michael Keane makes amends for giving away a penalty minutes earlier with an equaliser. The Burnley defender cooly chested down a Robbie Brady corner, and thumped a shot beyond Eldin Jakupovic.
80 mins: GOAL! EVERTON 2 SUNDERLAND 0:
Seconds after Jermain Defoe had clattered a shot against the underside of the crossbar, Everton broke and Romelu Lukaku has surely wrapped up the three points. The Belgian striker was set free by a pass from his compatriot Kevin Mirallas, and his dinked effort after cutting inside found the net via a deflection off Jordan Pickford.
84 mins: GOAL! CHELSEA 3 SWANSEA 1:
Diego Costa makes sure of Chelsea's victory! Eden Hazard has been quite brilliant this afternoon, and it was he who toyed with Kyle Naughton before beating the Swansea right-back with ease. Cutting a cross back from the touchline, there was Costa to fizz the ball into the back of the net with a quite exquisite volley. The leaders are going 11 points clear this evening.
90+2 mins: RED CARD! HULL 1 BURNLEY 1:
Burnley will have to see the final seconds of this one with ten men after hot-head Ashley Barnes has received his second yellow card and a red for lashing out an arm in the direction of Andrea Ranocchia. Can the visitors hold on?
