Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Champions League finalists Liverpool turn their attentions to domestic matters this afternoon as they travel to Chelsea in an attempt to secure their place in Europe’s top competition for another season.
A win for Chelsea will see them draw level on points with the Reds going into the final two games of the season, and they will back themselves to hunt Jurgen Klopp’s side down with their not-so-little distraction in the form of Real Madrid in Kiev.
Mohamed Salah is gunning for a record goal tally in a Premier League season having already scored 31, but is Chelsea’s defence up to the challenge?

First onto the pitch is Vic Akers who is retiring at the end of the year. He receives a recognition award for his service to the club.
Now comes on Per Mertesacker or the 'BFG' as the stadium announcer refers to him. He came on and took the captains armband from Petr Cech towards the end of the match.
We're waiting for Arsene Wenger to emerge and in attendance to form a guard of honour and helping form that are Arsenal players past and present. Pat Rice and Bob Wilson come onto the pitch to say their bit.
Arsene who. This man knew who he was," says Bob Wilson, the former Arsenal 1970-71 First Division winner. "Arsene Wenger, the visionary, an inspiration. He has built the Arsenal we love and know today. He's changed the face of football in this country, hundreds of players owe their career through him."
"There is only one gift we can give. It is the special gold trophy presented to our club following the historic 2003-4 season. 38 league games player, 26 wins, 12 draws and no defeats, manager: Arsene Wenger."
Here he comes to enormous cheers as an image of him and his trophies is lifted from the banners. Arsene Wenger holds the gold trophy and addresses the crowd.
"Before I start I just want to say at arsenal we care, I would like to wish my fellow manager Ferguson well.
"Thank you all for having me for such a long time, I know that's not easy. Above all I am like you, I'm an Arsenal fan."
"This is more than just watching football, it’s a way of life. It’s caring about the game, the values we cherish, and as well that something that goes through all our bodies in every cell of our bodies; we care, we worry we are desperate. But when we come here, we realise.
"I would like to thank everybody at the club who makes this club so sepcial. I will invite you to push these players and the staff. These players have special quality, please follow this team and support them next season because they deserve it.
"I would like to finish with one simple word: I will miss you.
"Thank you all for being such an important part of my life, I hope to see you soon. Bye-bye."
The Arsenal manager is now embarking on a lap of honour, followed by the current Arsenal squad who are all wearing Merci Arsene shirts.
Arsene Wenger approaches this child in the crowd, he doesn't give him his shirt, but instead hands over his tie.
