Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Cech's better days

According to the statisticians, Petr Cech made an error which resulted in both goals. for the opener, he lost out to Shane Duffy at the back post when he failed to claim the ball at the back post before Duffy headed down to Lewis Dunk to score.

Then, he allowed Glenn Murray's header to somehow bounce under him when Brighton scored their second goal.

Is this the most animated we will ever see Mesut Ozil?

46: We're back underway.

48: The second half has started as the first ended. Arsenal are looking more confident and a working the ball around in Brighton's half, but look vulnerable on the counter attack.

49: Henrikh Mkhitaryan finds himself some space on the edge of the area and a low shot is easily saved. The camera pans to Arsene Wenger who is picking at what looks like a wooden drink stirrer, he looks nervous and unhappy, understandably so.

51: 'Murray for England' chant the home supporters as Brighton press Petr Cech into a poor clearance.

53: Granit Xhaka gets a yellow card in perhaps one of the least surprising turns of this game. He wipes out Gaetan Bong's feet from underneath him.

55: Brighton win a corner as Petr Cech tips over Ezequiel Schelotto's cross. The corner is clearer to the edge of the area where Antony Knockaeert is waiting to strike at goal but blasts an effort well over.

57: Arsenal work their way into Brighton's penalty area and Henrikh Mkhitaryan finds Alex Iwobi with half a yard of space. He takes a touch and shoots low into Matthew's Ryan's arms.

The Gunners come forward again and Mesut Ozil tests Ryan at the front post and forces him to turn the ball behind for a corner, which Brighton clear.
