From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Good afternoon and welcome to The Independent's live coverage of Brighton vs Arsenal. One of the biggest club sides in the country versus a promoted side who are fighting for survival is usually a foregone conclusion, right? When you fill in the gaps and add a little context, this match will not be Arsenal's routine win it perhaps should be.
Team News
Arsene Wenger drops Hector Bellerin to the bench and selects a back four with Callum Chambers playing at right back. Jack Wilshere is in for Aaron Ramsey who did not travel with the side, and Alex Iwobi comes starts in place of Danny Welbeck.
Team News
Brighton are unsurprisingly unchanged after their 4-1 win against Swansea last week.
Arsenal are without their top goalscorer on the road this season. Nacho Monreal is Arsenal's leading scorer away from home with three goals, three. That might go some way to explaining why the Gunners are closer to West Brom at the bottom of the table than Manchester City at the top.
Thierry Henry is asked on Sky Sports who an Arsenal manager should build this team around.
"At the minute you don't see who you can take and say, 'listen you're going to be my guy.' We've seen recently it's very difficult to do that.
"Who is going to be out there and say to these guys 'we're going to do this and win that.' What about the players, what have you been doing recently. I'm not having a go at the players, it's what you're supposed to do."
Last Time
Nacho Monreal and Alex Iwobi were the goalscorers when Arsenal beat Brighton at the Emirates in October. The Gunners had 25 shots on goal in a dominant display, will we see something similar today? I'll be surprised if we do.
Another Stat which spells very bad news for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger.
"On three occasions, the seventh defeat has been suffered in April, with last year’s date of 10 April just one day longer than their worst record from 2006.
"That was until Thursday."
Brighton are the only team in the Premier League this season who have not taken a point off one of the top six sides. Their manager, Chris Hughton, says his side cannot focus too much on Arsenal's recent decline.
"We are playing against a team that is full of top individuals that can hurt you. We have to line-up our team and prepare exactly for that.
"It is always going to be more difficult for a lesser side to impose themselves on a team in the top six.
"We will not allow ourselves to get caught up in Arsenal having had a couple of difficult games and we are in good form, we can only afford to play the right type of game."
