From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Your support makes all the difference.Manchester United will be looking to bounce back after their humiliating home defeat by West Brom over the weekend when they travel to face AFC Bournemouth on Wednesday.
Jose Mourinho’s side sit second in the Premier League, a position they will be looking to consolidate, with Liverpool only one point behind.
Eddie Howe’s men, meanwhile, could secure their Premier League status for a fourth consecutive campaign with a win. The Cherries are under no threat from relegation, currently ten points clear of the drop zone, but three points would certainly confirm their place in the top flight next term.

37 mins: BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher is complaining about Harry Kane taking England's corners during Euro 2016. Let it go, Darren.
44 mins: Bournemouth are pushing for an equaliser before the half-time whistle and nearly find it through Josh King. The former Manchester United forward strikes first time after Nathan Ake had barged his way through the visitors' midfield, but his shot is pushed away by the goalkeeper selected for the Premier League's team of the year, David de Gea.
45 mins: There will be just one minute of time added on at the end of the first half.
Jesse Lingard finally seems to be justifying all that goofing around. Squaaaaaad.
SECOND HALF KICK-OFF: There are no changes to report as Bournemouth get the second period going at the Vitality Stadium. The Cherries have made a habit of rescuing games and picking up points from losing positions this season, but they are going to need to show more over the next 45 minutes if they are to add this game to that impressive collection.
49 mins: Lewis Cook is the first name in Graham Scott's book this evening after the young midfielder pulled back Lingard as he threatened to make inroads inside the Bournemouth defensive third.
51 mins: Bournemouth are at their best when Callum Wilson is stretching the United defence. Moments ago, the former Coventry forward set off in hot pursuit to chase a Surman pass down the right flank, and was close to finding himself one-on-one with David de Gea. Only resolute defending from the game's goalscorer, Chris Smalling, ensured that United conceded a corner and not an equaliser.
56 mins: Bournemouth want a penalty! Josh King's teasing cross from the left just evades Wilson at the far post, but the striker looks to have been nudged off balance by the presence of Luke Shaw. Referee Graham Scott is unmoved but the protests from the Cherries players on the pitch and those in the dugout are incredulous.
The drama settles and the home side make their first change of the night with Lys Mousset replacing Jordon Ibe.
