From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Bournemouth take on Crystal Palace at the Vitality Stadium as two of the Premier League's mid-table staples bid to stake a claim for the top half of the league.

Palace come into the game three points behind the Cherries having ended a run of three straight defeats with a win over Huddersfield and a frustrating goalless draw against Newcastle.

Bournemouth's fast start to the season came to a strange halt at Burnley where they were thrashed 4-0, but Eddie Howe's side can climb up to seventh in the table with all three points tonight.

1-0

Jordan Ayew kicks the second half off.

No changes at half-time. Can Crystal Palace get back on level terms? Wilfried Zaha has barely had the ball and you feel they need to get him more involved if they are to find a route to goal.

That isn't a bad chance at all. Jordan Ayew does well and again James McArthur finds a pocket of space by the penalty spot. Ayew finds him but it is a poor shot that sails over the bar.

A superb, crisp forward pass from Luka Milivojevic is turned on by Jordan Ayew but Wilfried Zaha loses out to Simon Francis.

David Brooks nearly gifts Palace a further opportunity with a missed hack at the ball but just about recovers. More promising from the visitors.

More good stuff from the Eagles. Aaron Wan-Bissaka runs with pace and power and Andros Townsend swings in a dangerous cross which falls to Wilfried Zaha. Blocked.

They look so much more alive at the start of this half, and Bournemouth are starting to appear a little harried. All eleven Crystal Palace players are in the hosts' half before Steve Cook manages to clear long.

Max Meyer tries to sidefoot a volley on the turn and connects sweetly with the plummeting ball but it strikes his own man and Asmir Begovic will have a goal-kick.

But Crystal Palace win it back swiftly. First signs of panic in the Bournemouth defence, though they continue to look to play the ball out from the back.

AND THE PRESSURE TELLS! A QUITE FANTASTIC EFFORT RIFLED HOME BY PATRICK VAN AANHOLT!

Harry Latham-Coyle1 October 2018 21:12

He's offside and Bournemouth can count themselves unlucky, but that is a superb finish.

Luka Milivojevic picks the ball up deep and plays a nice forward ball to initially spark an attack. Wilfried Zaha has moved inside to free space or the onrushing Van Aanholt and Zaha profits from a fortunate ricochet of Max Meyer and plays through to Van Aanholt. The left-back cuts back on to his weaker right foot but sweetly powers the ball in to the roof of the net at the near post.

It was coming, even if it shouldn't have counted. 1-1
