Arsenal face Everton knowing only a win is likely to do if they are to have any chance of overhauling Manchester City or Liverpool for a place in the top four.

Heading into the final day of the Premier League season, Arsene Wenger’s team know destiny is out of their hands as they look to secure Champions League qualification for the 21st consecutive year.

Though the Gunners have won their last four matches and seven of their last nine, their late upturn in form will have been in vain unless City lose at Watford or the Merseysiders fail to beat relegated Middlesbrough at Anfield.

In their way stand an Everton side who have enjoyed a solid first season under Ronald Koeman but have precious little left to play for.

Alexis Sanchez: On what could easily be his final Arsenal appearance at the Emirates, as ever the Chilean’s form will be key to his side’s chances of success against the Toffees. The Gunners are outsiders to scrape into the top four but the 28-year-old will be out to ensure the Londoners at least fulfil their end of the bargain.

Player to watch…

Ross Barkley. The Everton midfielder has still not signed a new contract with the Toffees amid growing uncertainty over his future. With Koeman stating he wants the 23-year-old to make a final decision by the end of the season, Sunday’s game marks the cut off point for the England international to reveal his intentions.

Laurent Koscielny is sent-off by referee Michael Oliver

38 mins: How haven't Everton scored?! Barkley mis-hits his effort across goal, but it falls kindly to Valencia, who also scuffs his effort. It's half-cleared by Monreal, but only to Lukaku who also manages to find a defender and the deflection puts the ball into the hands of Cech. A real wasted chance, and then Arsenal break and Jagielka ouls Sanchez to pick up a yellow card.

Jack de Menezes21 May 2017 15:39

41 mins: Gueye has a long-range effort that curves towards Cech and forces the keeper to palm it behind for a corner, which Arsenal deal with and then break. Sanchez finds Ozil as he tries to burst through the centre, but he's dispossessed and the chance goes, much to Ozil's frustration.

Jack de Menezes21 May 2017 15:42

43 mins: Cech is again forced into a good save from Cech, with Lukaku heading a Holgate cross that loops towards goal and forces Cech to leap high and palm it over. Arsenal break again, but the 3-on-2 counter is stopped as Baines tackles Sanchez. Everton counter, and Cech this time makes a smart save from Barkley, though the effort was drilled at him.

Jack de Menezes21 May 2017 15:43

45 mins: Arsenal are living dangerously despite the 2-0 advantage. Everton counter and Lukaku is left in space at the back post. His first touch is poor though that takes him slightly away from goal and he flashes a shot wide as Cech watches it. Despite the two goals, the red card and the lengthy stoppage to treat Valencia, we only have two minutes of injury-time.

Half-time: Arsenal 2 Everton 0

Half-time: Arsenal 2 Everton 0

Jack de Menezes21 May 2017 15:50

Half-time: A frantic half that doesn't have the feel of an end-of-season game at all. Everton have been poor and unsurprisingly conceded early through Hector Bellerin's opener, but Laurent Koscielny's straight red card for a poor tackle on Irdissa Gueye lifted the away side. They're failure to take their chances cost them though as Arsenal hit them on the counter with Alexis Sanchez doubling the lead, and the Gunners were lucky to hang on at the end there.

Jack de Menezes21 May 2017 15:52

46 mins: Arsenal kick-off and the second half is underway! Another change for Evereton as Gareth Barry replaces Idriss Gueye.

Jack de Menezes21 May 2017 16:04

48 mins: Brilliant stuff from Joel. The Everton stopper is forced into a smart double-save, with Welbeck having his effort blocked before Ozil then fires straight at the goalkeeper. Everton counter and Gabriel and Valencia collide. Gabriel got the ball but appeared to trap his knee underneath him. he's in real agony and it looks like Per Mertesacker will come on.
