Arsenal ensured that the Premier League title race will go down to the final day after a fine victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

With Manchester City defeating Fulham yesterday, Arsenal knew they needed to collect all three points and came out of the gate in full flow. United were pinned back as the Gunners imposed themselves on the game.

The breakthrough though came from a Casemiro error. Positioning himself to play out from the back, Andre Onana instead went long and gave the ball to Arsenal. Kai Havertz was sent down the right, with Casemiro now playing him onside, before cutting the ball into the box. Leandro Trossard arrived from the opposite wing and tapped home.

That goal was all Arsenal needed. Their ever-impressive defence nullified United’s young forward line kept them at bay and earned a clean sheet without heading out of second gear. Mikel Arteta gets a well-deserved win at Old Trafford and may just end his season with a Premier League title.

Pre-match thoughts from Mikel Arteta

“My brain always takes me to the players lifting the Premier League,” said the Arsenal boss ahead of the match against Man Utd.

“That’s what my brain is doing at the moment. I just follow my brain and my gut and this is how I feel, and this is the way that I want everybody to think and hopefully we can achieve it.

“We have to think that it’s going to work. We try to be better than our opponents and beat them. The final outcome is something else. At the moment it’s not in our control.”

The stakes of today’s game

Arsenal head to Manchester United on Sunday for their penultimate game of the season knowing they need to win to ensure they remain in the fight for the title.

The Gunners face a United team during a poor run of form but they are still fighting for European qualification and are in the FA Cup final later this month.

Neither team can afford to lose or draw which should make this one an exciting prospect.

Erik ten Hag insists Man Utd’s critics ‘don’t have any knowledge about football’

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has questioned the knowledge and understanding of impatient onlookers calling for him to be sacked.

Things have gone off track since a promising first season in charge, which saw the Red Devils end their six-year wait for silverware by lifting the Carabao Cup before finishing third in the Premier League and FA Cup runners-up.

An eye-watering injury list offers mitigation this term, but Ten Hag’s position has come under increasing scrutiny during what could end up being United’s worst ever Premier League season.

Man Utd vs Arsenal prediction

With Manchester United in a terrible run of form and suffering a mounting injury crisis they are particularly vulnerable for the visit of Arsenal.

Still, against an old enemy United tend to up their game and Liverpool can attest to how annoying it can be to come to Old Trafford and try to win.

Arsenal have to come away with three points in order to maintain their title challenge against Man City but this won’t be as easy as they’d like.

Expect both teams to score goals but it’s hard to decide a winner with a stubborn United potential gifting the title to City after a draw.

Man Utd 2-2 Arsenal.

Ten Hag gives Shaw update

Manchester United’s injury crisis has hit their defensive line harshly with only one of their preferred back four available in Diogo Dalot.

Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire are all on the sidelines but the man United will be hoping to get back quickly is left-back Luke Shaw.

Manager Erik ten Hag provided an update on Shaw saying: “Luke Shaw had a setback in his process as well but there is still a hope and he will fight to be available for the final.”

United face Man City in the FA Cup on 25th May with Maguire also hoping to be fit in time to feature.
