Manchester City vs Newcastle LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction after Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva goals

42 mins: Other than a couple of half chances and some mistimed shots from Newcastle Manchester City have had complete control of the game.

Phil Foden’s goal has taken any nerves out of City’s play but they’ll want to add to their lead as soon as they can.

39 mins: Close! Callum Wilson miscues an unmarked chance from around 10 yards and scuffs his effort. He should at least have hit the target.

36 mins: Close! Kyle Walker’s cross field pass is expertly brought down by Kevin De Bruyne who whips a cross over to Erling Haaland.

Sven Botman does just enough to distract the striker and Haaland nods his header wide of the nearest post.

33 mins: Manuel Akanji and Callum Wilson have a bit of a scuffle as the Newcastle forward grows frustrated with Akanji’s persistant marking.

Nathan Ake then gives the ball away from a pass into midfield before De Bruyne fouls Guimaraes with a tackle from behind.

30 mins: Another counter-attack comes when Newcastle lose the ball high up the pitch. Kevin De Bruyne brings it down the left before switching the ball over to Phil Foden.

Foden attempts to cut inside onto his left foot once again but Dan Burn has help from Joelinton this time and between them they block and clear the effort.

27 mins: Great defending from Jamaal Lascelles. Kevin De Bruyne slots a forward pass into the Newcastle box with Erling Haaland chasing after it.

Lascelles goes with the Norwegian striker and holds him at bay long enough for Nick Pope to get out and scoop up the loose ball. A frustrated Haaland shakes his head after the attack breaks down.

24 mins: Newcastle create a half-chance to equalise but Sean Longstaff’s effort is charged down by Nathan Ake.

Though not as threatening as Foden, Jack Grealish is having a fair bit of joy on the left wing too. He’s linking with Kevin De Bruyne nicely and getting crosses into the box.

21 mins: Foden is in terrific form. He’s given the ball on the right side once more and darts ahead of the Dan Burn before sliding the ball into Erling Haaland.

Haaland flicks it into the box for Ilkay Gundogan but Sven Botman is on hand to recover possession.

City counter-press with Kevin De Bruyne nicking the ball back high up the pitch. He tries to swing in a cross from out wide but puts it out of play for a goal kick.

18 mins: That was a fantastic goal from Phil Foden. He’s now got four goals in his last three appearances for City and to have him fit and firing for the back half of the season will be a huge boost for Pep Guardiola.
