This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.

Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Manchester City vs Luton Town

Manchester City secure a comfortable 5-1 victory over Luton Town at the Etihad Stadium. It took just two minutes for Guardiola's side to take the lead as Haaland's effort deflected off Luton defender Hashioka and flew into the top corner. The Hatters defended well until half-time, with Kaminski helping ensure the score was only 1-0 at the break. In the second half, the home side continued to stamp their authority on the match, and they doubled their lead through Kovacic, who fired into the top corner from inside the box. Shortly after, City were awarded a penalty after Doku was brought down, and Haaland was there to dispatch from 12 yards. The Hatters were handed a glimmer of hope as Barkley pounced on a mistake at the back to make it 3-1, but Doku got himself on the scoresheet shortly after to make it 4-1. The Citizens sealed the three points late on as Gvardiol produced a superb strike from the edge of the box. Man City will end Saturday at the top of the Premier League table, while Luton remain in the bottom three. That's all for today, goodbye!

City should score! Bobb wins the ball inside the Luton penalty area and he dances past the challenge of Burke. He looks to pull it back to Alvarez but his shot is saved by the face of Kaminski. It falls straight to Kovacic who looks to strike, but the Luton goalkeeper makes another stop from just a few yards out!

Luton have shown more of a threat in the final third in the second half of the game, producing four shots since the break and touching the ball inside City's box eight times. Guardiola's side have shown more of a clinical edge since half-time, and they've simply had too much firepower for the Hatters from an attacking sense.

Luton will have an opportunity from a free-kick, deep inside the Man City half, as Lewis upended Chong just outside the penalty area. Doughty and Barkley and they play it short, but the Hatters are forced back. It eventually comes to Doughty inside the box after Woodrow flicked it in his path, but Ederson makes a strong save as the Luton full-back fired it towards the bottom corner.
