Ruben Amorim urges Manchester United to 'manage expectations' ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Manchester United crashed to a 3-2 home defeat against Nottingham Forest as the size of the task facing new boss Ruben Amorim was laid bare.

Goals from Nikola Milenkovic - who headed home inside 90 seconds - Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood secured Forest‘s first win at Old Trafford since 1994.

In what has been a memorable campaign for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, it is also the first time Forest have won league games at Anfield and Old Trafford in the same season. Rasmus Hojlund equalised in the first half and captain Bruno Fernandes reduced the deficit with an excellent strike.

But United were undone by individual errors from goalkeeper Andre Onana and centre-back Lisandro Martinez. After Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat at Arsenal, United have now lost their last two games and are 13th in the Premier League table.

Relive all the action and the reaction from Old Trafford below:

Our senior football correspondent Richard Jolly has the latest from Old Trafford:

Manchester United have conceded three goals from corners in about 40 minutes of football, after Arsenal's two on Wednesday. Given the ever greater importance of set-pieces, they can hardly afford to become a club who have a marked weakness in that area. The giant Nikola Milenkovic has already made a huge difference for Forest at one end since his summer arrival. Now he has had an impact at the other, with a first Forest goal.

A quick start from United, but Forest win the ball quickly and launch one long to Wood.

A test for Yoro, perhaps, on his full debut when he encounters the big man.

A corner for the visitors early on now too...

Manchester United’s new star provides key to Ruben Amorim’s pressing machine

Old Trafford has not seen anything like this before.

Pressing from the front is nothing new to these shores – gegenpressing was even added to the Oxford Dictionary two years ago – but for the red half of Manchester, this very much new phenomenon is sweeping through Stretford like wildfire.

During the latter months of Erik ten Hag’s time in Manchester, as the goals dried up, so did the enthusiasm, from those in the stands as well as the disinterested stars on the pitch.

Ruben Amorim vows to ‘find solution’ to keep reinvented Amad Diallo at Manchester United

Ruben Amorim has vowed to “find a solution” to Amad Diallo’s contract as he suggested he will keep the in-form Ivorian at Old Trafford.

Amad is out of contract next summer and United risk losing a player who has begun Amorim’s reign in fine form and who looks to be pivotal for the new head coach.

But Amorim believes both the club and the £37m signing are keen for him to remain at Old Trafford as he expressed his confidence a deal can be done.

“I think he wants to stay and we want him to stay, so that is clear and we will find a solution,” he said.

Leny Yoro: The ‘new’ Man Utd signing poised for vital role in Ruben Amorim’s defence

There are still four weeks until the transfer window opens, but Ruben Amorim already has a shiny new signing to drop into his Manchester United team. French defender Leny Yoro made his debut on Wednesday night in the final 35 minutes of the Premier League match against Arsenal, and while United were beaten for the first time under Amorim, there were exciting signs in the cameo of their teenage prodigy.

Signed in the summer, Yoro sustained a foot injury in pre-season which required surgery and so is only now beginning his United career. A player bought by Erik ten Hag to play in a back four made his bow on the right side of Amorim’s back three, and it is a position that suits his style.

That much was illustrated by his most impactful moment at the Emirates, facing up to a speeding Leandro Trossard, isolated one-on-one. The backtracking defender used his body shape to force Trossard onto his left side before striding across the area to snap into a perfectly timed tackle. Later Trossard tried to twist Yoro in the box before shooting from 12 yards, but the defender again kept his head and blocked the strike. No one on either side made more than Yoro’s three tackles on the night, despite the 19-year-old being a 58th-minute substitute.

Excitement has been building around teenage defender Yoro ever since he broke into Lille’s first team aged 16. Now he is finally fit and ready to make his mark at Manchester United

Most Manchester United fans unhappy with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ownership, survey reveals

Nearly two thirds of Manchester United supporters are unhappy with the club’s ownership under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a survey has revealed.

The survey by the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (Must) found that 65 per cent of fans are “unhappy with the ownership and management of the club”.

Their frustration stems largely from a hike in ticket prices, suddenly imposed last month when the club announced that members would be charged a flat £66 fee for tickets, and that concessions for children and pensioners would be removed.

Ticket prices at Old Trafford previously started at £40 for adult members and £25 for children. The survey of more than 4,000 fans also revealed that 97 per cent believe the changes will “alienate the next generation of fans”.
