Liverpool manager defends Man United player ahead of big EPL clash

Mohamed Salah hit a hat-trick as Liverpool humiliated Manchester United, romping to a stunning 5-0 victory at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

Naby Keita got the visitors off to the ideal start in the fifth minute and then a dreadful mix-up between Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire led to Diogo Jota turning in a low cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold to make it 2-0 after 13 minutes.

United were in disarray at the back and Salah made it 3-0 - scoring for the tenth straight game in all competitions - converting a low ball from Naby Keita and then added the fourth after being set up by Jota.

It was the first time United had been 4-0 behind at the interval in the Premier League era and they were loudly booed off the field.

It took just five minutes after the break for Salah to complete his hat-trick with a trademark clinical finish after a superb through ball from Jordan Henderson.

United’s day got worse as they had a Cristiano Ronaldo goal over-ruled for offside by VAR and then halftime substitute Paul Pogba was sent off for a two-footed tackle on Keita, 15 minutes after coming on.

West Ham 0 - 0 Tottenham

63 mins: Declan Rice collects the ball in midfield and drives up the pitch. It take it around two Tottenham players and gets urged on by the home fans. Antonio makes a run in behind but he’s offside when Rice passes him the ball. Play continues though until Antonio cuts the ball back to Benrahma who has a shot deflected out of play.

West Ham 0 - 0 Tottenham

60 mins: Cresswell is fouled over to the left of the Tottenham penalty area and West Ham have the chance to send the free kick into the box. It would be a good time for them to score after Romero’s recent shenanigans.

Cresswell swings the ball into the middle of the box but it’s dealt with easily enough by Tottenham.

West Ham 0 - 0 Tottenham

57 mins: Here we go. Cresswell sends the ball down the left wing and picks out Fornals. He weaves around Emerson Royal before getting taken out by Cristian Romero. Fornals stays down and Romero gives him a few verbals. Fornals doesn’t like what’s been said and the two players square up to each other. Their teammates flock over to split them up. This should add a bit of spice to the game. Romero is shown a yellow card.

West Ham 0 - 0 Tottenham

54 mins: A lack of communication between Hojbjerg and Son. Kane is given the ball on the edge of the box but Ogbonna nips in the pord the ball away from the England captain. It comes to Hojbjerg who’s expecting a run into the left side of the box from Son and chips the ball over the top. Son came inside instead and they both look at each other quizically as Fabianski collects the ball.

West Ham 0 - 0 Tottenham

51 mins: Close! Ndombele slots a pass into Moura who works it out wide for Reguilon. Tottenham have plenty of men in the box as the cross comes in but Skipp starts his run too soon and he gets in front of the ball before it reaches him. West Ham send the ball out for a corner but Son’s delivery is easily dealt with by the home side.

West Ham 0 - 0 Tottenham

48 mins: Tottenham start the second half on the front foot. Skipp threads a lovely pass into the right side of the box where Ndombele runs in behind Cresswell. He sends the ball across the penalty area hoping to pick out Kane but Fabianski dives at the ball and plucks it out of the air for West Ham.

Second half: West Ham 0 - 0 Tottenham

Kick off: No changes for either team at the break. Tottenham are yet to draw a game under Nuno Espirito Santo, they’re are the only team left in the Premier League that haven’t drawn a match this season.

The Hammers restart the action.

Man Utd vs Liverpool

It was in doubt as to whether Bruno Fernandes would be fit enough to play for Manchester United but it seems he is fit to play against Liverpool later today.

The full team news will be out in around half an hours time.

Manchester United, Mauricio Pochettino and what might have been

It is eerily quiet in the southwest of the French capital. The Parc des Princes has been fully vacated with the hot-dog sellers trolleying home and the neighbouring restaurants shuttering up.

Right here, through the silence in the shadow of the stadium, screams a fact: Paris is the location where two of Manchester United’s biggest decisions in recent years were made, which ultimately led to it becoming the home of former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

This was not how it was designed to be. This still feels… off.

Manchester United, Mauricio Pochettino and what might have been

The Paris Saint-Germain manager has twice been considered the perfect man to take charge by United, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a habit of producing results when he needs them most
