What a game. Tottenham once more displayed the fortitude that saw them comeback against Manchester United in their last outing but this time it wasn’t enough.

From the outset things looked bad for Ryan Mason’s side as Liverpool scored twice in the opening five minutes as Curtis Jones and the returning Luis Diaz fired home from close range. A shocking tackle from Cristian Romero then set up Mo Salah to score from the penalty spot and Spurs were trailing by three after quarter of an hour.

It took them another 20 minutes to grow into the game but the ended the half in fine fashion with Harry Kane volleying home Son Heung-min’s cross to pull one back and send the visitors into the break with some belief. The second half saw Spurs utilise the counter-attack effectively but it was a long ball that fed Son into the penalty area where he slotted a low effort past Alisson.

But the game was decided from the bench. Richarlison came on for Spurs and found the equaliser in stoppage time only for Diogo Jota to pounce on Lucas Moura’s loose backpass to win the game just over a minute later.

Relive the action from Anfield as Liverpool and Tottenham clashed in the Premier League:

Half-time: Liverpool 3-1 Tottenham

45+2 mins: The whistle goes to end the first half. This is a cracking game and all three results are certainly possible.

Liverpool dominated against a lacklustre Spurs. Three goals inside the first 15 minutes sent them comfortably ahead but Tottenham rallied and started to find space on the counter-attack.

Harry Kane scored one, Dejan Kulusevski should have had a second and Son Heung-min curled a shot wide of the post. If things continue like this another Tottenham comeback may be on the cards.

GOAL! Liverpool 3-1 Tottenham (Kane, 40’)⚽️

40 mins: Spurs score! A wonderfully threaded pass comes through the inside left channel and finds Ivan Perisic bombing forward on a mini break.

Liverpool are slow to react as Perisic drives to the left side of the box. He flicks the ball into the area and Harry Kane is wide open to volley it home!

FT Liverpool 4-3 Tottenham

Ryan Mason believes Diogo Jota should have been sent off for his high foot challenge onf Olive Skipp. He said: “I have to be careful what I say but ultimately that’s an impossible one to miss.

“When you talk about endangering an opponent, to draw blood from a stud when his head if 5.5ft in the air just baffles me. That type of decision is the difference between winning the game or not.

“For me it’s tough to understand and I’d like an explanation. I see it in real time and you have a feel for those sort of moments. The VAR official has a replay. I’m devastated about today because of the way the game went.

“Honestly, it’s probably the clearest red card you will see on the football pitch. I need an explanation. It endangered the opponent, Skipp needs stitches and Jota has scored the goal when he shouldn’t be on the pitch.”
