What a game. Tottenham once more displayed the fortitude that saw them comeback against Manchester United in their last outing but this time it wasn’t enough.

From the outset things looked bad for Ryan Mason’s side as Liverpool scored twice in the opening five minutes as Curtis Jones and the returning Luis Diaz fired home from close range. A shocking tackle from Cristian Romero then set up Mo Salah to score from the penalty spot and Spurs were trailing by three after quarter of an hour.

It took them another 20 minutes to grow into the game but the ended the half in fine fashion with Harry Kane volleying home Son Heung-min’s cross to pull one back and send the visitors into the break with some belief. The second half saw Spurs utilise the counter-attack effectively but it was a long ball that fed Son into the penalty area where he slotted a low effort past Alisson.

But the game was decided from the bench. Richarlison came on for Spurs and found the equaliser in stoppage time only for Diogo Jota to pounce on Lucas Moura’s loose backpass to win the game just over a minute later.

Jurgen Klopp injures hamstring celebrating Liverpool’s late winner against Spurs

Jurgen Klopp came away with an injury along with three precious points after the Liverpool manager pulled his hamstring celebrating their late winner against Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool came out on top of a wild game which saw Klopp’s side take a three-goal lead inside 15 minutes. Tottenham hit back and equalised in added time through substitute Richarlison, but Diogo Jota pounced on a mistake to snatch a last-gasp 4-3 victory and spark wild celebrations around Anfield.

Klopp reacted to Jota’s goal by sprinting towards the fourth official after they had spent parts of the second half at loggerheads on the touchline. The manager shouted in the official’s face, and could later face punishment for his actions, but received a little pain in the form of what appeared to be a pulled hamstring, clutching the back of his leg in discomfort.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold to speaking to Sky Sports after the game: “Crazy. What a game. These are the games we love to play in. A fantastic ending to a game. Stuff you love to see to be honest.

“It’s not so much relief it’s just celebration. It’s pushing to get the winner again. We go from disappointment to sheer joy in a matter of minutes. Outstanding way to win a game.

“There’s a lot we need to learn. We can’t be drawing 3-3 when we’re 3-0 up. That’s not what top sides do, we need to put the game to bed. They fought back, fair play to them. It’s about winning games and that’s what we’ve done today.”
