From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The USA have won the 2019 Women's World Cup after a battling victory over the Netherlands in Lyon.
Second half goals from Megan Rapinoe and Rose Lavelle were enough to see the 2015 winners through to a win which sees them successfully defend the crown won in Canada four years ago.
The 2-0 win sees them lift the World Cup for a second time in a row and a fourth time in their history.

An enforced change as the second half gets underway: Ali Krieger replaces Kelley O'Hara, who took a bang to the head and landed heavily after an aerial collision at the tail end of the first half.
48 minutes
A relatively inaccurate start to the second half, with a number of passes going awry in these first couple of minutes.
49 minutes
Ali Krieger has slipped in at right-back, so a straight swap for the striker Kelley O'Hara, who will be disappointed to have had her World Cup Final ended in such circumstances. Lieke Martens is ok, by the looks of things, though she gives the ball away poorly here as the Netherlands look to come forward.

The Netherlands seems to have set up in a more attacking manner since re-emerging. Lieke Martens and Vivianne Miedema are pushing slightly further forward in support of Lineth Beerensteyn up front, which is creating something of an imbalance with Danielle van de Donk more withheld on the right. You just wonder if they might consider switching back to their 4-3-3 at some point.
54 minutes
Crystal Dunn is seriously good. Lineth Beerensteyn gets beyond her initially but Dunn battles back, using her strength and low centre of gravity to manoeuvre the Dutch striker off the ball, and toe the ball from her possession as she looks to play a pass. Top defending.
Meanwhile Beckey Sauerbrunn has a rather nasty cut beside her right eyebrow, and there's a fair amount of claret trickling down past her nose.
55 minutes
That'll need patching up, and the US will be down to ten for the moment.
56 minutes
She can't rejoin proceedings until the flow of blood is stopped, of course, and out comes the medical tape in a bid to do exactly that.
57 minutes
And back she comes, a thick black ring covering most of her forehead.
And the Dutch immediately go at her as the US throw too many players forward, but Sherida Spitse can't link up with a teammate.
