NEWCASTLE HOLD ‘ENCOURAGING’ TALKS WITH WILLOCK
Newcastle have been given hope that Joe Willock will join the club by the end of the transfer window according to The Athletic.
Steve Bruce made an approach to Arsenal for Willock after initially inquiring about Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
Bruce wants to add more creativity to his midfield but is being made to wait on a deal for Hamza Choudhury as Leicester want to sign a replacement before letting him leave.
There were fears from those on Tyneside that Willock would be against a move to Newcastle but talks with his representatives have been encouraging.
The 21-year-old midfielder made 29 Premier League appearances last season but has started just twice in the top flight in 2020/21.
CALETA-CAR DEAL BROKE DOWN LAST NIGHT
Yesterday, Liverpool were linked with Marseille’s Duje Caleta-Car who looked likely to join the Premier League champions.
Reports from France said the 24-year old was at Marseille’s Mairgnane airport last night ready to fly via private jet to Manchester to complete a deadline day permanent move to Liverpool.
The two clubs had agreed a fee but Caleta-Car never boarded the plane as Marseille had concerns over finding a replacement centre-back before tonight’s deadline.
The deal broke down and Liverpool’s attention has turned to Ozan Kabak.
SAINTS END PURSUITS OF MAITLAND-NILES
Southampton have reportedly ended their interest in bringing Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles to St. Marys on loan after frustrated negotiations with his representatives.
West Brom, Newcastle, and Leicester are all said to want to sign Maitland-Niles so he may yet leave the Emirates.

CENTRE-BACK DAVIES SET TO JOIN PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
Preston’s Ben Daives is set to join Premier League champions Liverpool after completing a medical today.
The 25-year-old centre-back is into the final six months of his contract with Preston, and his move to Anfield is for an initial £500,000, with a further £1.1million of add-ons structured into the deal.

KABAK UPDATE
Ozan Kabak is reportedly having a medical at Schalke before an agreed move to Liverpool.
In order for the move to go ahead Schalke wanted to bring in a replacement for Kabak before the 5pm German deadline.
That replacement is potentially Arsenal’s Shkrodan Mustafi according to Fabrizio Romano.
CHALOBAH DEAL TO GO DOWN TO THE WIRE
According to The Athletic Leicester City’s pursuit of Watford midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah looks set to go to the wire as Watford want to bring in a replacement before they sanction the move.
A potential three way move, (Chalobah to Leicester, Hamza Choudhury to Newcastle, Sean Longstaff to Watford) looked like the preferable option at one point but Longstaff has rejected a move to Watford.
That puts the other deals in jeopardy with all three clubs looking for alternative options.
