Spurs do appear close to their first summer signing in two years though, with Jack Clarke set to join this week before returning to Leeds United on a free transfer.
In Europe, Adrien Rabiot has now left Paris Saint-Germain and is expected to join Juventus today, while Liverpool have reportedly been offered two players in the form of former midfielder Philippe Coutinho and Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio – however the latter comes at the cost of current forward Sadio Mane.

Transfer confirmed: Watford have announced the signing of defender Craig Dawson from West Bromwich Albion in a deal thought to be worth around £6m.
The future of Kylian Mbappe appears to be becoming clearer by the day, and it doesn't seem to be at Paris Saint-Germain - at least for the long-term.
Spanish newspaper Marca is reporting that Mbappe has made it clear to PSG that he will not sign a new contract, meaning that PSG must sell him before the summer of 2022 or allow him to leave on a free transfer.
Real Madrid are leading the race for Mbappe and have already made their interest in him known, but having already shelled out considerably this summer after signing Eden Hazard, they are not in a position to sign the Frenchman this year.
But Madrid are keen on him next summer and have already made Mbappe their priority signing for 2020, meaning PSG can either sell him for big money in 12 months' time for a fee that will be in excess of the €180m they committed to buying him from Monaco in 2017, or hold on until 2021 and sell him for a reduced fee.
Paul Pogba's future at Manchester United remains up in the air with the club determined to keep him and the player wanting out this summer.
The Sun reports that Pogba will return from holiday next week to hold talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, where he will make it clear to the United manager that he wants to leave the club in the next two months.
