Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Welcome to our live coverage of today’s latest transfer news, gossip and done deals as we bring you the very latest rumours from the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and more.

The biggest transfer story of the window has, of course, been Manchester United’s interest in Sporting Lisbon skipper Bruno Fernandes. After weeks of little movement we are expecting that story to progress significantly in the next 48 hours, as United move to bolster their injury-hit squad. One of Wednesday’s most intriguing rumours was that Daniel Levy has contacted Real Madrid about potentially bringing Gareth Bale back to the club on loan. The Welshman would be open to the move and Real are desperate for him to leave the club – but will Spurs be able to afford his staggering wages, even if partially subsidised by the Spanish giants?

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been fairly active this month and could move for a third younger player while also continuing to monitor Timo Werner, who appears increasingly open to a move to Anfield. And Chelsea are also chasing a new striker and expect the Premier League rivals to clash over the next few days as they pursue similar transfer targets. So stick with us and follow all of the latest transfer news, gossip and done deals live below.

United and Chelsea have both been linked with Dinamo and Spain star Dani Olmo. There could also be some big moves across Europe. Real Madrid have been linked with a £68m move for Timo Werner, as well as Flamengo wonder kid Reinier, while Arsenal have turned their eyes to RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano as a long-term target.

Gareth Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett has insisted the Welsh forward will not be leaving Real Madrid this month.

Bale was linked with a return to Tottenham, but that now appears to be impossible for the time being.

Bale could feature against Unionistas in the Copa del Rey tonight.

Dundee midfielder Graham Dorrans has signed a new 18-month contract with the club.

Dorrans, 32, has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season for the Scottish Championship club after joining in September.

"I'm delighted to get the deal done," Dorrans told Dundee's official website. "It's been a great period for me, getting back to playing week after week.

"I've really enjoyed my time with the club. The players and staff have been brilliant with me."

Former West Brom midfielder Dorrans made his Dundee debut at Greenock Morton the day after he arrived at the club, having been released from Rangers earlier in September.

Everton summer signing Moise Kean admits his first goal for the club has given him the boost he needs to start scoring more regularly.

The 19-year-old recorded his maiden Everton goal on his 22nd appearance since a £27.5million move from Juventus in a 71-minute display but it was not enough for victory as Newcastle scored twice in added time to snatch a 2-2 draw.

However, there was considerable promise in his performance, one which Goodison Park had been waiting for since the summer.

"It feels good, it is a big motivation to do more work and help the team. I hope (it is the first of many)," Kean said. "I showed to the coach in training I am ready and if he chooses to put me on the pitch, I do my best. I am very happy.

"It is good motivation to start to do very well, to play very well for the team."

Back to Edinson Cavani now with Chelsea said to be at odds with PSG over their valuation of the player.

Frank Lampard is desperate to add a top striker this month after watching his side fail to kill off 10-man Arsenal on Tuesday night.

Add to that doubts over Tammy Abraham's fitness after the England international picked up a knock at Stamford Bridge and Lampard has shifted his priorities from a left-back to a forward before next week's deadline.

The Uruguayan international fits the bill with only six months remaining on his contract.

A short-term loan is a possibility but a permanent deal is the preference with the Daily Telegraph reporting PSG want €15m for the 32-year-old.

They say the Blues are unwilling to go that high with his current salary well over £350,000 per week factored in.

This one looks set to go down to the wire.

Bayern Munich are keen to re-sign Douglas Costa from Juventus.

The Germans would like to sign the Brazilian on loan, with an option to buy, according to Sport Bild.

With Maurizio Sarri predominantly preferring a combination of Paulo Dybala, Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo, Costa could look to move for more playing time.

The battle is on for Danny Rose's signature this summer, after his bust-up with Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho.

Here's an odd one. Bleacher Report claims Chelsea could SELL Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer, bringing in Burnley's Nick Pope to replace him.

It is also reported Chelsea have doubts about the true value of their former centre-back Nathan Ake. Bournemouth want at least £40m for the 24-year-old, but the club are wary of committing.

Here's Jorge Mendes on the future of Sporting's Bruno Fernandes, who is Manchester United's top target this January:

“If he doesn’t leave now, he will leave for sure in the summer because Sporting have already spoken with other clubs. Something will happen but I am not sure if now or at the end of the season.”

Matteo Politano, the Inter Milan forward, is caught in a tussle right now between Roma and Napoli. Politano would rather go to Rome, but Napoli have agreed a €25m deal with Inter and are in pole position.
