From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

After such a fantastic first half of the season, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side now find themselves trapped in a desperate slump, losing all of their last six league games in succession, including a harrowing 9-0 defeat by Manchester United. The Saints briefly topped the table at one stage but have now dropped down to 13th, with their hopes of securing European football now all but extinguished.
However, Chelsea’s fortunes have improved markedly since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, even if a title charge is already beyond the Blues. The club have won five out of six games in all competitions since Frank Lampard was sacked and currently sit fourth, just four points adrift of second-placed Manchester United. There was relief for Timo Werner, too, in a 2-0 victory against Newcastle last time out, with the forward finally bringing his torrid goal drought to an end. Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz have both returned to full training ahead of the fixture, but Tuchel will already have one eye on Tuesday’s Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid and may choose to rotate his starting line-up. LAST MEETING
Everton twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Goodison Park back in October. Goals from Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin cancelled out strikes from Sadio Mane and Mo Salah. But the most memorable moment, given the shape the season took in the weeks after, was Jordan Pickford’s challenge on Virgil van Dijk, which left the Dutchman out for the season.
JURGEN KLOPP SPEAKS TO SKY SPORTS
"We had one day more for us [after RB Leizpig game], it really makes a massive difference. We should be recovered and can go again. It's a derby and derbies are historically intense, so we have to be intense and calm as well in the right moments. Emotional as well but channel it in the right place. The boys know the solutions but we have to bring it on the pitch."

More than three points at stake for Everton against Liverpool
It is 11 years since Everton were victorious in a derby. Carlo Ancelotti’s task of shifting the psychological balance on Merseyside can start with a win on Saturday
LIVERPOOL VS EVERTON
Time to focus on what could be a hugely significant Merseyside derby now. Liverpool are on a run of three successive Premier League defeats and might be out for vengeance, after Virgil van Dijk was ruled out for the season after an injury sustained in the reverse fixture.
Both sides have their sights set on a top four finish, though Everton have had a dip of their own of late, falling to home defeats against Fulham and Manchester City.
HOW IT STANDS
Burnley are nine points clear of the relegation zone with a draw today, but the manner of the performance will be a concern. For the club’s fans, sitting through that would’ve been painful.
West Brom are still 19th, eleven points off Newcastle, who have a game in hand.
FULL-TIME: BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM
Burnley deal with the set piece and Mike Dean blows the final whistle. One of the worst games of the Premier League season comes to a welcome end. Burnley were awful, despite playing much of the game against ten men after Ajayi’s sending off. For West Brom, this might have been a good result earlier in the season, but they missed real chances in the second half and are still adrift in the bottom three.
BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (90+4’)
Tarkowski heads Gallagher’s set piece away, but moments later Lowton kicks Maitland-Niles and gives away another free kick, just outside the box to the left...
BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (90+3’)
Tarkowski is penalised for a challenge on Pereira. He goes into the book. A late chance to put the ball into the box for West Brom, perhaps...
BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (90+1’)
Johnstone does well to come off his line and claim McNeil’s corner, which moves deceptively in the wind. There’ll be three minutes of added time.
