From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

After such a fantastic first half of the season, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side now find themselves trapped in a desperate slump, losing all of their last six league games in succession, including a harrowing 9-0 defeat by Manchester United. The Saints briefly topped the table at one stage but have now dropped down to 13th, with their hopes of securing European football now all but extinguished.
However, Chelsea’s fortunes have improved markedly since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, even if a title charge is already beyond the Blues. The club have won five out of six games in all competitions since Frank Lampard was sacked and currently sit fourth, just four points adrift of second-placed Manchester United. There was relief for Timo Werner, too, in a 2-0 victory against Newcastle last time out, with the forward finally bringing his torrid goal drought to an end. Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz have both returned to full training ahead of the fixture, but Tuchel will already have one eye on Tuesday’s Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid and may choose to rotate his starting line-up. BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (88’)
Brave goalkeeping from Pope to rush out and deny Yokuslu, slipped through in the box by Pereira. The West Brom man comes off worse, but soon picks himself up.
BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (87’)
McNeil sends an inviting cross into the box, which is met by Bartley. His header loops up into the air, and then Johnstone, slightly unconvincingly, punches it away.
BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (85’)
A Taylor cross deflects into the arms of Johnstone, but for some reason a corner is awarded, despite the fact that the ball clearly didn’t go out of play. Burnley do nothing with the set piece anyway.
BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (83’)
Pereira is played through on goal, sits Taylor down and then slams his shot against the defender. He’s clearly offside, but the linesman waits until the chance is gone to put his flag up.
BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (81')
Burnley send on Mumbongo in place of Rodriguez.
BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (80’)
Close! Burnley finally get in behind West Brom, with Taylor played through by Brownhill on the left. The former sends a low ball flashing across the six-yard box, but Rodriguez can’t connect with it.
BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (79’)
Huge chance! West Brom miss another glorious opportunity to take the lead. It’s brilliant from Maitland-Niles, who drives through the middle and picks out Diagne to his left. The striker squares for Pereira, but the ball is just behind him. A deflection takes it into the path of Pereira again, though, and from close range his shot is cleared off the line.
BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (77’)
That West Brom look far more likely to score a winner says everything you need to know about Burnley’s performance. The hosts deal comfortably enough with a couple of set pieces, though.
BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (76’)
Cork goes into the book for a cynical foul on Maitland-Niles.
