From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Manchester United come into their game on Sunday looking to just serve a small reminder to Manchester City that their domestic title is not quite wrapped up yet, with the Red Devils able to close the gap to eight points if they pick up a home win against Burnley.

The Clarets have been in fairly wretched form, winning just one of their last eight league games, and are still not entirely safe from the threat of relegation - though there are still six points between themselves and Fulham, one place below them and just inside the drop zone.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have won four in a row in the Premier League, the best current run in the top flight, and they might just sense that a little pressure put on their rivals at the top could yet keep the end of the season interesting given that Pep Guardiola’s side have lost two of their last three in all competitions and still have the Champions League to focus on.

Realistically, though, this is all about United securing a top-two spot for the first time in three years, while Burnley simply need to scrape together more points to ensure safety for another season.

66’ - Man United 1-1 Burnley

Two more chances for United who are probing, without getting terribly close to a second. The latter chance falls the way of Fernandes, a close-range header, but it’s saved by Peacock-Farrell and Burnley clear once more.

62’ - Man United 1-1 Burnley

McNeil hammers a shot at goal and it’s heading into the far corner of Henderson’s goal - until it hits his own team-mate in the face, who blocks the effort. At the other end some great Rashford skill stretches Burnley, but again his cross is cut out.

58’ - Man United 1-1 Burnley

Rashford twice has room to get a shot away but fails to do so - Burnley just about stand firm. McTominay tried to break into the area too, but again it’s cleared and United miss their chance.

54’ - Man United 1-1 Burnley

United have to do it all again, then. Rashford frees Shaw in the box but his cross to Cavani is cut out. Burnley move forward on the counter quickly and Henderson collides with Lindelof as they both look to clear a direct pass - but no lasting damage is done.

GOAL! 50’ - Man United 1-1 Burnley

Immediate response! A corner for Burnley sees the delivery reach Tarkowski, he beats Maguire in the air and heads in a quickfire equaliser. 1-1 now.

GOAL! 48’ - Man United 1-0 Burnley

There’s the opener! Rashford down the left, a low cross along the edge of the box, Fernandes steps over it and Greewood is free to side-foot in from the right side of the box. Lovely move, quality goal.

SECOND HALF

We are back up and running and United have made a change: Cavani on for Fred. Pogba will be back in midfield now and Rashford on the flank along with Greenwood.

HALF TIME

Man United 0-0 Burnley

Wood’s early header aside, not too many clear chances. That one went in after 20 seconds, but was offside - and neither team has really fashioned a good sight of goal since then.

44’ - Man United 0-0 Burnley

A minute to go before the break. A low strike from Wood flies wide at one end and Greenwood tries to find room for an effort at the other, but we’re looking like remaining all square at the break.

40’ - Man United 0-0 Burnley

Very close to the opener. Rashford sends a first-time volley across the six-yard box for Greenwood to run into - but as he slides in, the ball somehow rolls under the younger forward’s boot. Probably would have been offside for the build-up in truth.
