From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Gabriel Jesus was denied a last-gasp winner by VAR as Tottenham Hotspur snatched a remarkable 2-2 draw against champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Brazilian looked to have claimed a deserved victory for City right at the death of an intriguing Premier League clash but his late strike was ruled out for a handball by Aymeric Laporte. The scenes as the goal was chalked off were reminiscent of the dramatic ending to last season's Champions League tie between the two sides at the same venue last season.

The ruling made the encounter extra frustrating for City, who had completely dominated proceedings and racked up 30 shots to the visitors' three.

Southampton get us back underway. A repeat of that first half performance will give them a real chance of getting something out of this game.

Southampton 0-1 Liverpool

A positive start to the second half from Liverpool, not dissimilar to the beginning of the first . They've clearly been given a talking to from Klopp, and they're passing with much more purpose early on.

It's disappointing from Salah, who hits a tame free kick against the wall. Liverpool do win a corner, though.

Jan Bednarek makes a crucial tackle to stop Firmino, who is played through by Salah. That's excellent defending from the Southampton man.

Close! Another Liverpool corner is only half cleared out to Milner, who drives the ball back into the box where Matip is waiting to flick the ball towards goal. His clever effort flashes inches wide of the post.

Southampton 0-1 Liverpool

There's been plenty happening in the opening ten minutes of this second half. Liverpool go close again, this time through Salah, who's set through on goal by Mane. He looks to open his body and guide the ball into the bottom corner, but Gunn is out quickly to save.

Southampton 0-1 Liverpool

That goal late in the first half appears to have buoyed Liverpool. They look far more confident, far more like their usual selves than they did for most of the opening 45 minutes. And they're finding plenty of spaces to exploit in Southampton's defence. The Reds look the most likely to score next here.
