From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Liverpool secured a 2-1 victory over Tottenham in the most dramatic of circumstances to return to the top of the Premier League table and move two points clear of Manchester City.

The home side took the lead in the first half through striker Roberto Firmino, as Liverpool seized control of the match to the delight of the Anfield crowd. But Spurs started to grow into the game after the break and it was Lucas Moura who scored the equaliser to drag Mauricio Pochettino's side level.

With time ticking down, it looked as though Liverpool would end the weekend in second place behind City, but a late Hugo Lloris error saw the Spurs goalkeeper parry the ball into Toby Alderweireld, who could not prevent the deflection from crossing the line and sparking wild celebrations. Prediction...

Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham

A big game for both teams, but Tottenham’s poor domestic form in recent months means Liverpool have the edge here. As they’re likely to head into the match in second place, with Manchester City playing Fulham on Saturday, the onus is on Jurgen Klopp’s side to respond with three points. Tottenham will have to stop the in-form Sadio Mane, who has scored five goals in his last three games, and Liverpool have an excellent home record against Spurs, winning five of the last seven games in all competitions at Anfield.

16 mins: Liverpool 1 - 0 Spurs - Firmino

Henderson sends the ball out to Robertson on the left wing. Robertson whips an accurate ball into the box and Roberto Firmino splits Sanchez and Vertonghen and heads the ball into the bottom corner. Liverpool lead at Anfield!

18 mins: Liverpool 1 - 0 Spurs

Liverpool come at Spurs again. Robertson puts another ball into the box that Davinson Sanchez heads away, it falls to Alexander-Arnold who shoots and narrowly misses the far post. Liverpool's wing-backs are running the game at the minute.

21 mins: Liverpool 1 - 0 Spurs

Robertson gets in behind the Tottenham defence again before passing the ball to Salah in the box. Salah does well to find Mane, who tries to curl the ball into the inside of the right-hand post but he misses, sending it wide instead.

24 mins: Liverpool 1 -0 Spurs

Alisson has been loose so far in this match, he comes bombing out of his box before realising he can't catch the ball, instead the ball hits him in the chest bounces into the box and he then recovers it.

27 mins: Liverpool 1 - 0 Spurs

Robertson runs down the left again and wins a corner against Alderweireld. Alexander-Arnold puts it in but the referee sees too much tussling in around the goalkeeper so he has to take it again. The second ball curls dramatically in the wind and hits the corner of the uprights.

30 mins: Liverpool 1 - 0 Spurs

Tottenham look really open down the left. Milner and Robertson try to find some space for a cross but Trippier comes out this time and makes a block. A long ball from Liverpool comes into the box and Firmino gets the better of Sanchez but can't find a red shirt to pass too, Spurs clear it away.

33 mins: Liverpool 1 - 0 Spurs

Lucas Moura intercepts Henderson's pass and Tottenham finds themselves in a little bit of space. Eriksen gives it to Alli who shoots and Alisson watches it go over the bar.

36 mins: Liverpool 1 - 0 Spurs

Liverpool shoot forward quickly, Salah gets the ball turns quickly and sends it to Firmino, Firmino turns and gives it to Mane, who shoots and sends it wide.

41 mins: Liverpool 1 - 0 Spurs

Spurs try to make something work but only end up giving the ball back to Liverpool on the edge of their own box.

45 mins: Liverpool 1 - 0 Spurs

Liverpool lead at half-time. They've been pretty good when attacking especially with balls into the box from the wide men but look a little ropey at the back.

For Spurs they've stayed in the contest but look to be finding it difficult against this Liverpool attacking force.
