Premier League: How the league table has unfolded so far

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Leeds suffered an almighty blow in their bid for automatic promotion after being defeated 2-1 by 10-man Wigan at Elland Road.

Bolton's dismal season, on and off the pitch, was finally condemned to relegation with defeat against Aston Villa, while Rotherham's survival hopes took another dent with a dramatic 4-3 loss to Swansea.

Sheffield United ensured Norwich cannot secure promotion to the Premier League this evening with a 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile, there were wins for West Brom and Blackburn, while the shares were spoiled elsewhere on a free-scoring day in the Championship.

27 min: Canos is in the book for a late tackle on Ferguson, who requires some treatment. It's turning into a tasty derby between these two.

GOAL! Bristol City 1-1 Reading (Brownhill,72)

A vital goal for Bristol. Eliasson wriggles his way forwards, dinks a cross towards Brownhill at the back post and Martinez is helpless. They're back in it.

Reading respond by withdrawing Ejaria and introducing McIntyre.

35 min: RED CARD!

Dalsgaard is off! The Brentford captain hauls over Thompson and he's received his marching orders. Wallace tests the keeper with the resulting free-kick from the edge of the box, but it's well saved by Daniels.

51 min: RED CARD!

And Benalouane is off at Bramall Lane as he bundles over McGoldrick and is ruled to be the last defender. Forest are down to 10.
