Premier League: How the league table has unfolded so far

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Leeds suffered an almighty blow in their bid for automatic promotion after being defeated 2-1 by 10-man Wigan at Elland Road.

Bolton's dismal season, on and off the pitch, was finally condemned to relegation with defeat against Aston Villa, while Rotherham's survival hopes took another dent with a dramatic 4-3 loss to Swansea.

Sheffield United ensured Norwich cannot secure promotion to the Premier League this evening with a 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile, there were wins for West Brom and Blackburn, while the shares were spoiled elsewhere on a free-scoring day in the Championship.

9 min: A dominant start at Bramall lane for Sheffield but no clear glimpses at goal just yet.

16 min: Colback is booked for diving on the corner of the box, after the midfielder deliberately hooked his foot on the defender's leg and tumbled acrobatically.

HT: That's the end of the first half at Ashton Gate, and despite a number of promising chances, the deadlock is yet to be broken.

30 min: So close for Sheffield as McGoldrick's header travels across the face of goal and Madine is just inches away from toe-poking home.

We're back underway at Ashton Gate. It's still 0-0 between Bristol City and Reading.
