Over the break it was one of their stars in Jack Grealish who was making all the headlines, shining with England and quickly becoming a favourite of the national team’s fans.
Domestically, Villa have won five of their seven games so far and a win will take them level with Leicester City, who went into the break top of the table.
Brighton have struggled to find an end product to go with their at-times excellent build-up play and have just one win from eight games so far, 16th in the table at the start of play. Follow the end of Newcastle vs Chelsea and the build-up to the game at Villa Park below:
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (27’)
Martial goes down in the box but referee David Coote waves away his appeals.
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (26’)
United continue to move the ball slowly, without any real urgency. There’s been a cautiousness about them at Old Trafford this season and it’s there again tonight.
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (21’)
West Brom take a short corner, and when the ball is eventually floated into the box Ivanovic powers a header over the bar.
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (20’)
Close! Pereira slides a pass through to Grant, who lets the ball run before hitting a low shot towards the bottom left corner. It deflects slightly and flashes just wide of the post, with De Gea stretching.
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (19’)
Nice buildup play from West Brom, who work the ball neatly on the left. Townsend finds himself at the byline, with time to cut back, but the ball runs out for a goal kick.
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (16’)
Better from United. The ball is worked out to Rashford, who slides a pass into Fernandes. He lays it into the path of Martial and the Frenchman’s low shot is saved superbly by Johnstone.
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (13’)
Martial is set away down the right and his cut back almost finds Fred, arriving late in the box. Furlong does enough to get his foot to the ball and deal with the danger.
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (12’)
Diagana comes forward but he’s held up as he tries to break into the box. He looks lively early on, though.
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (11’)
This has been a sloppy and lethargic start from United. The visitors, who’ve not really threatened, will probably be quite happy with how it’s going.
