Over the break it was one of their stars in Jack Grealish who was making all the headlines, shining with England and quickly becoming a favourite of the national team’s fans.
Domestically, Villa have won five of their seven games so far and a win will take them level with Leicester City, who went into the break top of the table.
Brighton have struggled to find an end product to go with their at-times excellent build-up play and have just one win from eight games so far, 16th in the table at the start of play. Follow the end of Newcastle vs Chelsea and the build-up to the game at Villa Park below:
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (46’)
Penalty for West Brom! Diangana is played in behind and cuts back for Gallagher. Fernandes catches the midfielder on the shin and the referee points to the spot.
KICK-OFF
West Brom get the second half underway. They’ll be hoping for more of the same.
HALF-TIME
Another disappointing Old Trafford display from United so far. West Brom have been organised and resilient, and Johnstone has made some impressive saves, but Solskjaer’s team need to be far better after the break.
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (45’)
Fernandes wastes a free kick, trying to catch out Johnstone, who simply stands up to it and saves easily. There’ll be one added minute.
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (43’)
Fernandes lifts another clever pass over the top for Wan-Bissaka to run onto. Rashford lets the cut back run through his legs, but Furlong reads it and intercepts.
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (42’)
Gallagher does well to find Diangana, whose driven shot deflects behind for a corner. The set piece is a good one, curled towards Bartley, who holds off Maguire and then flicks a header onto the roof of the net.
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (40’)
United continue to make hard work of breaking down a West Brom side that have, to their credit, defended well so far. It’s really uninspiring stuff from the hosts, though.
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (35’)
Martial, with his back to goal, receives a pass and then turns, looking for room to shoot. His effort deflects behind for a corner, which flashes across the box and drops to Maguire. The defender controls with his chest and fires a shot at goal from close range. Bartley blocks, bravely, taking one to the face for his team.
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 WEST BROM (33’)
Fernandes, after one of his worst passes, plays one of his best in a United shirt, fizzing a diagonal ball towards Mata at the back post. The Spaniard tries to find Martial, but Johnstone reads it well and gets there first.
