Expect high intensity from Leeds - Tuchel

Leeds thrashed a dismal Chelsea side 3-0 at a raucous Elland Road for their first win over the Blues in 21 years. The hosts produced a tireless performance under Jesse Marsch as Chelsea suffered their first defeat of the season to continue their underwhelming start.

Edouard Mendy’s error for the opening goal set the tone of the afternoon as Brenden Aaronson robbed the Chelsea goalkeeper of possession before finishing into an empty net. It was followed moments later by Rodrigo’s flying header for his fourth Premier League goal of the season and left Chelsea two goals down at half time.

Tuchel’s side were unable to respond and Jack Harrison added a third later on as Leeds enjoyed a famous victory against their old rivals. It went from bad to worse for Chelsea as Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off for a second yellow card late on.

Man City storm back to deny Newcastle as six-goal thriller ends level

If this exhilarating start to a new Premier League season was still missing something, it was a dash of uncertainty over who will ultimately come out on top. While those considered their title rivals have slipped up around them, Manchester City had made a predictably imperious start up until this visit to St James’ Park, perfectly setting themselves up for a second straight title defence. Yet in another remarkable game, one of several we have already witnessed just three weeks into this new campaign, they were held to a 3-3 draw, dropped their first points of the season and, at times, even looked vulnerable.

Pep Guardiola cut a frustrated figure on the touchline but when all is said and done in May, this may be looked back upon as a respectable point away from home against a rising force. After all, it could have been worse. Newcastle United’s steady improvement under Eddie Howe’s guidance appeared as though it would earn a statement win when Kieran Trippier’s free-kick added to Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson’s strikes to set up a two-goal lead at the start of the second half. Yet a two-minute salvo, one from Erling Haaland and another by Bernardo Silva, rescued the champions from defeat.

Full time result: Newcastle 3-3 Man City

Burn is replaced by Krafth for the closing stages. Newcastle wind down the final moments of the match with a couple of balls into the channel as City look to find one final penetrating pass.

Bernardo Silva almost has the chance but his shot is blocked and after a quick Newcastle counter comes to an end, it’s all over at last.

First points dropped this season for City but both remain unbeaten. Tremendous 90 minutes at St. James’ Park.

90+3’ - Newcastle 3-3 Man City

Joelinton booked for a trip on Haaland. The Brazilian complains after he was denied a free-kick of his own moments earlier. He’s not happy. Dan Burn takes a ball to the face in the meantime and needs some treatment.

90’ - Newcastle 3-3 Man City

Five minutes added on.

Foden’s corner is headed away but Newcastle aren’t really clearing their lines right now. A deep cross is aimed for Dias and Wood has to leap and head behind for another set-piece. A long few minutes for the Magpies, this looks like.

88’ - Newcastle 3-3 Man City

Pope flies out once more to beat Gundogan to the ball as he races through into the box. No gametime for Mahrez or Alvarez at the moment despite City still clearly wanting the three points.

Into the last couple - how much will we see added on?

Foden runs on and strikes from range but it’s deflected over the bar.

85’ - Newcastle 3-3 Man City

Inside the final five. Walker’s crossfield ball finds Foden and it’s worked to Rodri, but Burn defends well against the looped ball over the top. Newcastle definitely looking tired now.

Foden tries to outpace everyone and Pope has to race out of his box after an overly short backpass from Longstaff.

82’ - Newcastle 3-3 Man City

Longstaff rampages forward on the overlap and wins a corner to relieve some pressure.

Almiron is replaced by Murphy for Newcastle. Huge applause from the crowd for him as he departs.

Burn nods down the corner for Botman, but his awkward volley is about 20 miles over the bar. Quite a presentable chance too.

79’ - Newcastle 3-3 Man City

Right, what have we got left in this game? Ten minutes or so plus stoppage time, a potential winner at either end, a manager meltdown perhaps?

City definitely pushing more for the winner at present but Newcastle still a threat on the break at times.

NO RED CARD! 75’ - Newcastle 3-3 Man City

Well, Trippier’s a lucky guy there. The pitchside review results in a downgrading of the red to a yellow card.

Still three goals apiece in the scoreline and 11 players apiece on the pitch.
