Expect high intensity from Leeds - Tuchel

Leeds thrashed a dismal Chelsea side 3-0 at a raucous Elland Road for their first win over the Blues in 21 years. The hosts produced a tireless performance under Jesse Marsch as Chelsea suffered their first defeat of the season to continue their underwhelming start.

Edouard Mendy’s error for the opening goal set the tone of the afternoon as Brenden Aaronson robbed the Chelsea goalkeeper of possession before finishing into an empty net. It was followed moments later by Rodrigo’s flying header for his fourth Premier League goal of the season and left Chelsea two goals down at half time.

Tuchel’s side were unable to respond and Jack Harrison added a third later on as Leeds enjoyed a famous victory against their old rivals. It went from bad to worse for Chelsea as Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off for a second yellow card late on.

Pep Guardiola vows not to overuse Erling Haaland ahead of the World Cup

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola will not flog star striker Erling Haaland ahead of the World Cup.

Haaland will not be at the winter tournament in Qatar as Norway did not qualify, meaning he will have a month off in the middle of the Premier League campaign.

Still, Guardiola does not intend to overuse his new signing in the months before his mid-season hiatus.

Newcastle vs Man City latest news

The season so far for these teams:

Newcastle started the campaign with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest. They followed that up by drawing 0-0 with Brighton, so Eddie Howe’s side yet to concede a goal and sat in 7th ahead of kick-off. They can go level second if they take victory.

City were of course top, before this weekend’s games, after winning both their openers. 2-0 at West Ham and 4-0 at home to Bournemouth was enough to see them clear on goal difference, but they’re down to fourth after wins for Arsenal, Leeds and Spurs. A 2-0 win today would put them top.

Leeds stun woeful Chelsea after Brenden Aaronson punishes Edouard Mendy howler

It transpires there are worse sights for Thomas Tuchel on the touchline than Antonio Conte refusing to look him in the eye during a perfunctory handshake. Back in the dugout while he appeals against last week’s red card, the Chelsea manager saw his side overrun and overcome, their first defeat of the season inflicted by Leeds’ frenetic football. Tuchel prizes control and Leeds’ inspired brand of chaos brought them victory over historic rivals for the first time since 2002 and their biggest since 1995.

The manner of defeat was as chastening as the score itself. Chelsea conceded from a set-piece for a second successive match. Edouard Mendy gifted Leeds their opener. Perhaps sieving three goals will strengthen Tuchel’s case that Chelsea need to bid still more for Wesley Fofana to bolster his defence. Instead, the centre-back he has bought, Kalidou Koulibaly, was sent off as he could not cope with Leeds’ speed; much like Tuchel, suspension beckons for him.

Premier League: Brighton beat West Ham, Newcastle vs Man City latest

Elsewhere in the other 2pm kick-off, it’s a tough old start for Moyes’ boys as West Ham lost 2-0 at home to Brighton.

Mac Allister’s penalty and a second-half Trossard goal proves enough to lift the Seagulls into eighth for now.

Leeds, meanwhile, are second in the table right now - albeit on alphabetical order ahead of Spurs!

Next up it’s Newcastle vs Manchester City in a match which should prove every bit as enthralling as this one was. Stay right here and we’ll head into that game immediately...

FULL TIME: Leeds United 3-0 Chelsea

Sensational from Leeds. Marsch’s team were close to perfect right from kick-off, just a few Sterling-created moments which caused them any problems at all. They have outfought Chelsea in midfield and have definitely outplayed them in central and attacking third areas.

Tuchel had a big shout at the fourth official after a foul on Thiago Silva, which does not seem particularly wise given what happened last weekend with Antonio Conte.

Three points, three goals, lots of impressive performers for the home team.

90’ - Leeds 3-0 Chelsea

Into stoppage time, of which there will be three minutes. Thomas Tuchel has a bit of work to do during the week after this beating.

Transfers and the Champions League group stage draw will take just as much attention too - a big week for them.

Leeds can bask in the glory of plenty of post-match admiration after this energetic and clinical showing.

87’ - Leeds 3-0 Chelsea

Azpilicueta comes on for Sterling to shore up the defence. Sinisterra evades two challenges in midfield and it’s another Leeds free-kick.

Marsch is still organising and encouraging on the sidelines but this is easily the team’s best performance under him.

A great start to the season, seven points from three games after today.

RED CARD! 84’ - Leeds 3-0 Chelsea

Koulibaly is sent-off! A counter-attack sees the defender haul down Gelhardt as Leeds break and it’s an easy one for the ref.

A dreadful day for Chelsea and for the new signing in particular.

82’ - Leeds 3-0 Chelsea

Three changes for Leeds. Greenwood, Gelhardt and Klich all come on, replacing Harrison, Aaronson and Rodrigo.

Ziyech’s shot hits his own man and bounces to Sterling who is free - and offside. He shoots anyway and Meslier saves it anyway.
