From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Liverpool began life after Jurgen Klopp with a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town in the early Saturday kick-off in the Premier League.

A positive start from Ipswich led to a fairly even first half, with both sides having chances before going in level at the break.

But Liverpool came out the more energetic in the second half, and before long they were cutting through the home defence, mwith Diogo Jota flashing a header wide from six yards.

The Portuguese made amends soon after though, as Salah broke free and slipped through the pass to lay it on a plate, and Jota duly obliged by slotting into the top corner.

And from there Liverpool dominated, creating several great chances before Ryan Gravenberch and Mo Salah combined before the Egyptian slotted in the second.

Ipswich did themselves proud in a tough start to life back in the Premier League, but the Reds showed their quality in their first competitive match under Arne Slot, and will be hoping to lay down some title credentials over the next few weeks.

Follow all the latest build-up and team news from Portman Road below:

Ipswich 0-0 Liverpool

10 minutes: Liverpool have a corner, Robertson is standing over it, he swings it in and it’s well cleared and Ipswich take the opportunity to break.

They have a three on two, but cannot make the most of it and Alexander-Arnold is able to get back and make the crucial interception.

Ipswich 0-0 Liverpool

8 minutes: Ipswich show a lot of energy whenever they do get the ball, but they have not been able to build up any significant amount of possession.

Liverpool attack again with Kota trying to find Salah and he wins a throw in, he has a new haircut, but it is unlikely to affect performance.

Ipswich 0-0 Liverpool

Ipswich 0-0 Liverpool

3 minutes: Liverpool have had most of the possession so far, but Ipswich are looking to hit on the counter, they find a way through and it was a good recovery from Robertson just on the edge of the box, he got himself the wrong side of it, and should have dealt with it earlier.

That’s an early warning sign.

Ed Sheeran is in the stadium

Ed Sheeran is in action to watch his beloved club at Portman Road, and he said to TNT Sports: “I think people like success stories like this it is a grassroots club and it just feels good for the town as well, Ipswich have been through some tough years and it’s great for the county as well.

“I started sponsoring in league one and that carried on into the Premier League, I said I’d do one season in the top flight and then the sponsorship progressed.”

Liverpool manager Arne Slot speaks ahead of the match

Liverpool manager Arne Slot said to TNT Sports ahead of the game:

“Definitely looking forward to it, but it is all about getting a result. The job is the same if you work in Holland or here, you want to prepare in the best possible way.

“Jurgen left the team in a really good way, full of energy and they always want to work hard. I do think the results were a bit better than the way we played, some wins were the play was not as good. I’m ery positive about how we have worked until now. It is good to see that the boys who came in two weeks ago came back really strong.”

When asked about team selection, he said: “[Ryan] Gravenberch starts in the 6 because he has the attributes to play there, he will develop into a 6. Him playing today will help Macca [Mac Allister] play more forward.”
