A positive start from Ipswich led to a fairly even first half, with both sides having chances before going in level at the break.
But Liverpool came out the more energetic in the second half, and before long they were cutting through the home defence,mwith Diogo Jota flashing a header wide from six yards.
The Portuguese made amends soon after though, as Salah broke free and slipped through the pass to lay it on a plate, and Jota duly obliged by slotting into the top corner.
And from there Liverpool dominated, creating several great chances before Ryan Gravenberch and Mo Salah combined before the Egyptian slotted in the second.
Ipswich did themselves proud in a tough start to life back in the Premier League, but the Reds showed their quality in their first competitive match under Arne Slot, and will be hoping to lay down some title credentials over the next few weeks.

Alexander-Arnold picks up the ball on the left and slips it through to Salah, who has overlapped into plenty of space. It’s created a 2-v-1, and all Salah has to do is thread it into the path of Jota, who hits it first time into the top corner.

58 mins: Liverpool are really asserting their authority here, with two long-range shots that were flying goalwards blocked at the last.
Moments later, an inch-perfect cross from Alexander-Arnold is met by the head of Jota from around six yards out, but it flashes wide!

The Reds go on the attack themselves and they work a brilliant opportunity!
Szoboszlai holds it up in midfield and ships it to the onrushing Trent Alexander-Arnold, who drives towards the box and plays the one-two with Jota. Jota clips it back towards him on the edge of the area and Alexander-Anrold lays it into the path of Luis Diaz, who really should score but instead lifts it over Walton and over the bar!
Burns does come off in the end, and he’s replaced by Johnson.
