Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It’s the final day of the Championship season and before the chaos of the play-offs takes hold next week, there is the small matter of deciding who goes up to the Premier League… and who drops down to League One.
Cardiff City know a win at home to Reading will see them return to the Premier League for the first time since 2014, but their opponents are not totally safe, sitting only two points above the drop zone in 19th.
Fulham will be waiting in the wings knowing they must win to capitalise on any slip-ups, although they are also playing a relegation-threatened side in Birmingham City.
At the other end of the table, there are five teams fighting to avoid the two final relegation places as Burton Albion and Barnsley are away to play-off chasing Preston North End and Derby County respectively. The final team involved are Bolton Wanderers, who are at home to Nottingham Forest.

Preston 1-1 Burton
Burton are rallying! Preston meanwhile are at a loss, they started so well but now, with Derby 2-0 up their playoff hopes are drifting away
Derby County 3-0 Barnsley
Bolton 1-0 Nottingham Forest
Barnsley fate is now out of their hands it seems. David Nugent heads home a deflected header, but Adam Le Fondre has scored a deserved goal against Forest! Bolton are now SAFE as things stand, with Burton and Barnsley heading for League One.
Bolton 1-1 Nottingham Forest
70: Ben Osborn scores a stunner from the edge of the area, firing into the bottom corner. Their joy was short-lived, Forest are currently saving Clough. Nigel that is.
Derby 4-0 Barnsley
71: Tom Lawrence has scored a fourth at Pride Park. So that's County and Forest giving the son of Clough a leg up. A good finish from the Welshman leaves Barnsley in peril.
Cardiff 0-0 Reading
Birmingham 2-0 Fulham
75 minutes gone and the Bluebirds are all-but up. It looks like it will be chance missed for the Whites. The drama at the top happened early when Jutkiewicz and Dean gave the Blues a 2-0 advantage. The playoffs beckon.
