Gabriel Jesus struck four as Manchester City powered towards the Carabao Cup final with a ruthless 9-0 demolition of League One Burton at the Etihad Stadium.

The tone for a one-sided semi-final first leg was set as Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring after just five minutes, with Jesus adding two and Oleksandr Zinchenko another before the break.

Jesus grabbed two more in a 13-minute second-half blitz that also saw Phil Foden and Kyle Walker hit the target before Riyad Mahrez completed the scoring late on.

It was City's biggest win since they thrashed Huddersfield 10-1 in 1987 and ensured the second leg will be a formality.

12 mins: Man CIty 1 - 0 Burton

Burton defend a corner well enough before getting a bit of possession. Collins kicks it long and Burton keep hold of the ball, it's worked into Man City's area from the left before falling to Harness on his own to the right of goal. He takes his shot first time and boots it over the bar, what a chance for Burton!

Burton have another good run forward only to be denied by Kyle Walker. Since the goal Burton have responded well, keeping hold of the ball and asking questions of Man City's defence.

18 mins: Man City 1 - 0 Burton

It's that ball over the top again that does the damage for Man City, Mahrez makes the run and puts the ball into the back of the net but once more he's ruled to be in an offside position so the goal doesn't stand.

27 mins: Man City 1 - 0 Burton

Burton will be happy with their start to the game. Although they are one down, they've looked threatening on the ball and have created some good chances. Man City have a corner that they play short before De Bruyne puts it back into the box and into the hands of Collins.

30 mins: Man City 2 - 0 Burton - Jesus

City have a second goal. Sane holds the ball up on the right wing before giving it to Silva in the centre. Sane continues his run into the box and leaves Akins behind as the ball from Silva comes in. Sane points the ball towards goal, Collins makes the save but Gabriel Jesus is the quickest to react and he heads the ball into the net.

33 mins: Man City 3 - 0 Burton - Jesus

It was always going to be a difficult task for Burton to get anything out of this game. Their entire squad cost the club just £1m in comparison to Manchester City's £530m.

David Silva drifts into the box as the ball comes over the top again, he brings it down and squares it to Gabriel Jesus. Jesus sends the goalkeeper to his right before slotting the ball into the net off the post.
