Eden Hazard scored a superb winner as Chelsea came from behind to beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The Reds’ seven-match winning start to the season was halted after substitute Hazard fired past Simon Mignolet in the 85th minute at the end of a wonderful run.

Hazard’s goal came six minutes minutes after he helped create Emerson Palmieri’s equaliser, which cancelled out Daniel Sturridge’s 58th-minute opener.

The first of two meetings between the clubs this week, with a Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge to come on Saturday, saw Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Blues counterpart Maurizio Sarri both make eight changes to their starting line-ups.

It’s a big game for…

Gary Cahill: After announcing his intentions to leave Chelsea in January, the 33-year-old was finally thrust into action on the weekend when Antonio Rudiger picked up a knock against West Ham. Whether it’s to try and transform Maurizio Sarri’s opinion or attract suitors elsewhere, it’s an important start for the club’s former captain.

Weird /best stat…

The last six times Liverpool and Chelsea have been drawn against one another in the Carabao Cup, the winner has gone on to the final.

Remember when…

The two teams most recently met in the third round of the competition in November, 2000, when Robbie Fowler’s extra-time winner ended a 10-month goal drought and secured a 2-1 victory for the home side.

Chelsea look comfortable on the ball when they go forward, Willian plays a one-two with Morata and takes a shot when he gets the ball back. He doesn't connect cleanly and Mignolet collects

Liverpool are finding it difficult to win back the ball, they're content to slowly put passes together and wait for an opening. Fabregas makes one, deftly putting the ball into the box for Morata to run on to but Mignolet is aware of the danger and he makes the save

Morata gets another chance on goal, Willian puts the ball through the defence and Morata takes a cross goal shot that Mignolet save again.

James Milner gets a card and it makes me sad he brings down Emerson and Chelsea have a free kick. It's whipped into the box but Morata's offside

Liverpool look set to attack Chelsea on the counter attack using the wing backs on the overlap, they have some minor success but Christensen brings Sturridge down. Chelsea win the ball back and Matip tackles Kovacic from behind. It's a card.

Azpilicueta elbows Mane as they clash going for the ball. It's nothing malicious, just a trailing arm and the referee tells Mane to play on

Moreno is in the wars against Victor Moses, it's a really good battle between the two of them. Liverpool work the ball up the pitch, Keita giving it to Sturridge before getting it back. He goes down in the box as Cahill withdraws his leg and the ref waves play on. Good decision.
