From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Manchester United and Chelsea meet in the FA Cup final for the third time in the tournament’s 147-year history in what is lined up to be a fiercely competitive encounter at Wembley Stadium.

In a final that pits Jose Mourinho up against rival Antonio Conte, both managers know that defeat will leave them trophy-less this season – and for the latter that could prove to be the end of his reign at Stamford Bridge. Conte is expected to leave Chelsea at the end of the season, although there is hope that an FA Cup final triumph could yet keep him at the club.

For United, finishing the Premier League season 19 points behind Manchester City has been particularly embarrassing, and having failed to win the Champions League or EFL Cup, Mourinho will be desperate to add to his extensive trophy collection with the FA Cup.

The scene is set

The National anthem is being sung and the England players are certainly giving it some with their singing, not quite as much as Lee Mason who is this afternoon's fourth official.

2: Marcos Alonso slides away from Antonio Valencia but is brought down by Ander Herrera before he can break away.

Cesc Fabregas curls in a deep free kick from the right straight into David de Gea's gloves. Olivier Giroud, and Chelsea fans, expect better.

4: Alexis Sanchez gets his first touch on the ball but is quickly closed down by Cesc Fabregas who wins the ball back for Chelsea.

When Manchester United get the ball Paul Pogba is looking to run in behind. Could he provide extra firepower going forward in the absence of Romelu Lukaku?

6: Marcus Rashford drops deep to get involved runs into N'Golo Kante who wins back possession.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United have started cautiously, like boxers exchanging light jabs in the first round as they try to work each other out.

8: Manchester United break with Jesse Lingard on the ball. Chelsea are exposed and N'Golo Kante brings the United midfielder down. Those in red call for a yellow card but Micheal Oliver keeps his cards in his pocket.

9: A poor pass from Phil Jones is intercepted and Chelsea break. They work the ball to Eden Hazard who cuts inside from the right and forces David de Gea into a good save with his leg at the near post.
